Big wup. The US being some of the richest athletes in the world that can afford their own personal sports doctors, trainers, nutritionists, drugs, equipment etc are leading other competitors in a game.

Maybe I should be. The Olympics are games of resources wether state or corporate sponsored. It does not come down to skill or strategy. It comes down to capitalist dollars.

No this person is just telling it like it is. Everything said here is bang on. The Olympics are about so much more than just medals, you know sportsmanship, courage, human achievement, drama etc.

Yes it is part question of how much resources each country has, but not only that. If it was only a question of money, then the countries with the highest GDP per capita would be way up there. The top GDP-per-capita countries in the world are Liechtenstein, Qatar and Luxembourg. How many medals did these countries win? None? A the same time, poorest countries like Ethiopia should not have won any medals, but they did.

Interestingly, on the basis of medals per population, the top most successful countries are Grenada, Bahamas and Jamaica (thanks to Bolt). The UK is no. 10 and the U.S. is nowhere to be seen.

If the medals won by EU countries were added (because the EU basically functions as one country), the EU got something like 272 (I actually took the time to research this) vs. the U.S. total of 104. So, unless we start counting medals by U.S. states and comparing them to European countries, Europe (EU) is the most successful.
