BEIJING - The American flag landed on the scorer's table, launched by a family member with exceptional aim. Henry Cejudo grabbed it from his coach and draped it around his body. He stood there for the longest time, fighting back tears, the son of illegal immigrants wrapped in stars and stripes.

After Cejudo had defeated Tomohiro Matsunaga of Japan to win the 121-pound freestyle wrestling final Tuesday, and after his family members had celebrated so loudly for so long that security threatened to kick them out, officials hung a gold medal around his neck. He promised never to remove it.

"I might just sleep with this," Cejudo said. "It changed my life already."

Fitting, because his is a story about change - for himself, for his family and maybe now for the USA Wrestling program, which trained the 21-year-old Cejudo to become the youngest gold medalist in U.S. wrestling history.

The gold medal, and his path to it, changed so many lives along the way.

Like his mother's life: Nelly Rico raised seven children by herself and left Los Angeles with them in the middle of the night to escape the criminal who was the father Cejudo never really knew.

I dont want to hear this crap how hard his mother worked blah, blah, blah. She is illegal and this is a tip for ICE. I would like to know if Henry Cejudo is legal. Was he born here or mexico? If he was born in mexico deport him and give his medals to mexico.

Did his mother go to China with him? Wouldn't it be hysterical if she couldn't get back into the United States because she's an illegal?

"Sorry, ma'am, but just because we let you out doesn't mean we're going to let you back in."

Tee hee.

LOL! That gold medal could pay for her deportation proceedings.

and your point it...?

if he is a legal us citizen, and won a medal for himself and the usa, wonderful achievement for him and for the country. doesn't really matter what his parents are, if the above is true, does it? don't let them back into the country if illegal.

if he is not a citizen of the usa,(and i don't care which country he is national to if not usa), then why is he representing the usa in the olympics? surely that is illegal in itself, otherwise any country can bring in "visitors" to represent them. his medal should be given to the country he is citizen to, and no other.

The article said she couldn't get a passport because she was an illegal alien. I wish they would've, then she wouldn't be able to come back in. Judging from the ages of her children she latched onto American benefits a long time ago.

"Son of illegal immigrants wins gold" meanwhile, back in America, 400 sons of illegal immigrants join MS-13, receive "golden machetes". Another 300 children of illegal immigrants sign up for welfare, receive it, and 250+ anchor babies register to vote. Whoopeeee!

She couldn't get a passport = "American Passport"

If she had an American passport, she could come & go as she pleased.

You people are just Racist! Its not even that you completely care about the illegal immigrants coming in to this country ,its just that you can`t stand to see a latino or black person succede in this country Representing the U.S.A. Is it because you would never be Able to make an accomplishment like that. FYI if he Represented the U.S.A in the Olympics he was an AMERICAN. Also when someone tries to stand up for these people you All gang up on them like a pack of Hungry wolfes. Admit it.

You're joking, right? I think everyone was thrilled to see us sweep the medals in the 400m hurdles, and those three looked quite black. Matter of fact, blacks are quite well represented in several of the sports at the Olympics.

What this thread is about is an anchor whelp whose mother is STILL illegal. Whatever ethnicity she happens to be is irrelevant. Contrast that to, say, Sasha Artemev or Nastia Liukin, both of whom are Russian-born naturalized citizens (as are Nastia's parents).

If Mexi-mom can't be arsed to get legal after all these years, she deserves to watch the Olympics on her 13" black and white TV instead of being there. I'm just disappointed that they didn't deport her while her son was out of the country.

No, she has no passport. How many amnesties have we had in the past thirty years? Wow, she never applied for any; she prefers to live under the wire. Well, now the entire country knows her story, so she and her brood need to be given the boot, once and for all. Don't let anybody make you beleive that they want to become American, scamming the system must be easier if you're here illegally.
