Law in the USA:
In Oregon: May not ride a bike without a seat
In California: May not ride your bike in your pool
In Massachusetts: Handlebars may not be higher than your shoulders
In Indiana you may not ride your bike in a commercialised area.
In Miami all bikes must be equipped with a bell or other type of alarm. Another law states that no bike my be equipped with a sirene or whistle.
In Ontario all bikes must have a red rear reflector but a flashing red light at the back is forbidden. In Alberta you must give handsigns when turning. At the same time another law tells you to always have both hands on the bars. And in the UK a law still excists which orders you to constantly operate your bike's bell while riding.
Not quite right Pieter, you do NOT have to have a bell on a bike, let alone ring it

Chris, that's one of those old and foolish laws which is still in force in the UK. I will email you a lot more of those stuff. One of the laws states that it's illegal for cats and dogs to smoke pipes or cigars in public. In South Africa we've even got worse things than that. So remember, next time you ride your bike without a bell, you are breaking the law.

I've just now returned from my first road event for this year. Short route, "rolling hills" which means a lot of ups and downs but nothing serious. I averaged 17kph over 28km with a maximum speed of 51kph. Normal south easter blowing at 25kph. I'm happy.

Thank you so much Chris.

I received the official results just now. Out of 46 timed riders, I finished 16th. And in the Grand Masters league I am.......No 1. I'm not going to tell you how many GM riders took part! I'm really very, very happy.

Pieter you go!

Just did my first ride of the New Year... only 20km but a) my headset was loose (didn't tighten properly after airplane); b) am at 1600m altitude, c) my Achilles are always tender after 2-3 months without riding... need intermittent efforts/rest or they go 'crepatious'(sp?)

Off on a four-town Mtn Tour... the jobquest begins!

Pound-cakes also is against 'women's ski-jumping': that alone makes him a LOSER...

We wonder why the sporting media keeps running to him for quotes?:-)

John Fahey must be fuming down in Australia, each time DP opens his pie-hole!

Zen brother, how's the job hunting going? Was thinking about you the other day when I saw a woman riding an Orbea carbon with platform pedals and wearing a pair of shoes of which the soles were coming adrift! That can only happen in South Africa.

Hi Speedy...

I'll know perhaps by Tuesday if I have the 'greatest' Welcome-Home-And-Chill-the-Fff k-Out job of all time: Ski area town bus driver, work mostly on-call for evenings, with Full ski pass and H Care!(if I got it, there's 82+ days left to ski; and an income (not bad for blue collar) that reinserts me into the land of the living... if it doesn't work, I've still more to do!
(an ex-river guide I worked with is their #3 seniority driver, and an ex-taxi dispatcher is their #3 office staffer; they have no on-call drivers now, and rumours of one or two 'rookies' that can't cut it were flying around the office... so I could be really lucky...

"So what you are saying is "All cyclists dope" Right?"

Let's say the top 10 guaranteed, below that there may be an exception once in a while.

How many winners never got caught and ended up admitting years later. As long as some of the top guys dope you don't have a chance if you don't.

Many investigating authorities have review some of those films and various allegations from many people, trust me Lance is in hot water even one of our Congressional committee is loooking into this, it is serious. Time will tell us. The way Lance has biked in this 2010 Tour I am very proud of him he has tried very hard and I believe he is clean--he has so far played by the rules. Some of his past performances were not credible for the mortal men, one time he was 35 minutes behind in the GC and he came back and won the Tour and in at least four other times on a certain given stage he beat his rivals by over eight minutes. Look at Contador and Andy as good as they are they can not beat people by that kind of margin not even close.
