Can anyone help me settle an arguement with a friend?
A year ago my neighbor bought a packet of three disc's Norton Antivirus for his computer. He claims these are good for 3 years but I disagree with that.
I keep telling him those are only good for 12 months from the time you install the first disc.
Who is right?
My understanding is after 12 months they will not update protection of the lastest virus threats.

norton offers both 1yr and 3yr protection in a 3-disc package.

in my humble opinion, you both should consider the free antivirus programs available. the free versions of avast and avg are excellent and won't slow your pc down as much as norton.

you can just as easily catch a virus with the "paid" versions of antivirus programs, they are kind of a scam.

Personally I will never use anything other than Norton again.
I bought a new computer in Nov. and it came with Norton Internet Security installed. That was free for 90 days and then you have to pay for it or make a change. I renewed it and I paid $31.86 and that was a bargain price for what you get.
That covers the firewall protection, spyware, virus protection and things I'm not even aware of. I'm very pleased with Norton and I haven't had 1 virus on my computer. What else could you ask for?

I had Norton free with my last PC, then paid for a year when my 90 day trial was over. Norton is a resource hog, as has already been mentioned. I still hot viruses even with Norton. I then had to pay them for help. First of all, I paid for protection that failed. I then had to pay $9.95 for help that couldn't help me, requiring me to be bumped up the line to someone in New Delhi (no joke, I asked) so I could then be charged $89.95 so they could remote access the computer and remove the virus. Meanwhile, my friends using AVG and other free security programs aren't getting viruses. McAfee is no better. I'm finished with these rip offs. Go with AVG or Defender and save your money.

ditto on avg or defender, they do seem to protect better, again just my opinion.

we are driven by fear delivered through advertising to purchase unnecessary protection. just don't open any 'unknown' emails and be cautious when downloading media and you'll be fine.

i personally haven't used any antivirus program whatsoever (even defender) in over a year, i used the free versions before that. since ditching all of them, i have had fewer problems and all my 3 of my notebooks have honestly never run better.

I always use norton, it is by far the best product on the market. Oh I forgot to mention I own a 10000 shares of symantec stock. I hope you don't think my opinion is skewed.

Where can I find the free AVG protection without having to jump through hoops to download it?
