Depends what about what he was brought in for. If they are asking him for details about the incident, fine. But if they are trying to find him guilty of self defense, then the police should be ashamed of themselves.

Expect nothing less in Illinois, it is a communist state where even the though of owning a gun is illegal, much less using one for such a nobel purpose.

Well he was the only witness so I am sure they just want to question him.

Illinois is now the ONLY state in the USA that does NOT have CCW laws- yet, the Chicago control freaks ALL have security that protects their bony butts with guns on a daily basis - it's ok for the political crooks but not OK for the citizen of this state. Take Gov. Daley out and line him up for another Valentine's Day Massacre. I'd pay to watch, along with the rest of the controlling, corrupt, political thieves that run this worthless piece of ground called Illinois, starting with Abe Lincoln! He started this whole mess - Al Capone, where are you and Baby Faced Nelson, I now understand why you were the way you were! Mob rule is better than this! What am I talking about - we had mob rule - Blago, Ryan, all in prison or going to be! But I prefer the professionals like Capone, don't you?

I got so carried away with the gun laws that I forgot about the article - they should take this bar owner, give him a medal for providing a much needed service to the community, then that community should get together and have a parade in his honor!

There should be more of this happening then maybe some of the crime would stop in that burg! Shoot to kill first and foremost - if the cops can't do it then do it yourselves - Illinois cannot put everyone in jail - they are already in jail! You go, guy! Good job! Well done!

I promise you if more people acted the way this club owner did, there would be a lot less criminals in the world. The fear of not seeing another sunset is a big detterent for these turds.

If you would take the time to check it out you would find many tales of misery and added expense from the actions of these copper thieves.

Correction: Illinois and WISCONSIN are the only two states. Wisconsin advocates are working it but according to their site there is still no conceal carry in that state.

First of all nowhere in the story does it say the owner was arrested other than in the title of the article. It simply states he was brought in for questioning. That is NOT being arrested. Misleading title at best, more like a complete fabrication of the facts. But to answer your question, he was NOT shot for stealing copper. It is when he tried to wrestle the gun away from him that made it ok to shoot him. You can only shoot someone in self defense, in other words if YOU feel your life is in danger. So if someone tries to take your gun away from you, you can argue that you feared for your life.

Not let see if this man is actually arrested or if this is a compltelely false title to the article.

I am not siding with the thief, just saying you cant kill someone for stealing copper.

Not that I support this in any way shape or form, but just for my own info if I am ever in this spot. Couldn't it be argued that the owner was brandishing a weapon and even that the perp could claim it was HIS self defense once he was forced to go inside at gun point? I really wish the laws were more clear.

Well he didn't shoot him for stealing copper, he shot him for attacking him. See my other post as to the difference between what is right and what is legal. There are many ways this could be argued once it gets to court. I have personal experience with all the things that have to be considered when the use of deadly force is considered, and the time you spend wrestling with whether or not you'll end up spending the rest of your life in jail is the time when you get shot.
