Hey Bible Babl'n Bull-shit teller...there is just a bit more to the story...let me complete it for you.<quoted text>
Oh yeah, the "rape" of Dinah. So brutal.
Genesis 34:3 And his soul clave unto Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the damsel, and spake kindly unto the damsel.
Wait, what did that just say? He spoke kindly to her? His soul clave unto her? Are you sure that this was a "rape" and not just some guy that had a hard time controlling his hormones for a hottie?
Was it wrong? Yes! Was it rape? It never states her side of the story. But Shechem was wanting to marry her. Never heard of a rapist talking kindly to their victim or wanting to marry their victim. Most of the time the crime is a crime of power/passion and the victim usually fights the perp and the victim is usually killed or at least beaten. I think not.
Once again we are talking about a human interacting with another human in a real life situation. The Bible says we are sinners and we are. Mirror, mirror, on the wall...
You are correct in that the story would not be appropriate for a young person to hear. If you were teach that to young children I would question your mental state and not the story itself. Isn't that the reason movies have ratings? Please people, let's have some common sense.
Hamor came to Jacob and asked for Dinah for his son: "Make marriages with us; give your daughters to us, and take our daughters for yourselves. You shall dwell with us; and the land shall be open to you," and Shechem offered Jacob and his sons any bride-price they named. But "the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and his father Hamor deceitfully, because he had defiled their sister Dinah," saying they would accept the offer if the men of the city agreed to be circumcised.
So the men of Shechem were deceived, and were circumcised; and "on the third day, when they were sore, two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, took their swords and came upon the city unawares, and killed all the males. They slew Hamor and his son Shechem with the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went away." And the sons of Jacob plundered whatever was in the city and in the field, "all their wealth, all their little ones and their wives, all that was in the houses."
"Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi,'You have brought trouble on me by making me odious to the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites and the Perizzites; my numbers are few, and if they gather themselves against me and attack me, I shall be destroyed, both I and my household.' But they said (Genesis 34:31),'Should he treat our sister as a harlot?'
You selectively take what you want form the Bible...that is why you can't be trusted...or any Tea-Vangelical really!
