Oh yeah, those were real realiable sources! I'll take my chances here in the USA. We may have the highest cost but I still believe we have the best care, or at least we did. Things are getting crazy now because of the Obamacare that's suppose to kick in soon. Let's see how many of you like it then!

Funny....... why do people come here all the time for medical care if it is so great other places? Where did you get your info..... from the Huff Post??
I am surprised you don't move to another country.
Did you know atheist worship idols.......... THEMSELVES! I heard that today and thot' it was rather interesting. Why do you quote scripture when you think the Bible is a lie? Satan really has his claws in you for sure. On the other hand, I think the Holy Spirit is trying to get you to take off your rose-colored glasses. Think about it, Dawg, before the Rapture happens!...
1a. Extremely wealthy sheikhs from Saudi Arabia come here. They are the only ones who can afford the over-priced US medical care. If you only make middle-class wages, you can't afford US healthcare from the capitalistic healthcare industry.

1b. And how come US citizens go to Canada for healthcare?

2. Huff Post? No. Why do you ask? My information came from a ranking by the World Health Organization in the year 2000. Here is a discussion on Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Health_Org...

Here is the actual World Health Organization report in the year 2000:

http://www.who.int/whr/2000/en/whr00_en.pdf

2a. But, you cry -- that information is SO dated! Okay, here is an article in January 2013, which discusses that, among 17 nations, the US is generally "dead last" (excuse the pun) in a) death from all causes, b) highest death rate from violence, c) highest death rate from car accidents, d) highest chance a child will die by age 5, e) second highest death rate from coronary disease, f) second highest death rate from lung disease, g) highest teen pregnancy rate, and h) highest rate of women dying due to complications of pregnancy and childbirth.

http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/201...

Ah, yes! Ain't American healthcare grand!(The Atlantic magazine is a conservative-leaning publication.)

3. You "heard today" that atheists "worship themselves"? Ah, hahahahahahaha! As "gods"? Take off your black opaque glasses, "Norton"! Your ability to see the real world does not exist. I know you think that I am brilliant, but I am not a "god." (Nor even an idol.) It is not necessary for you to bow when you come into my presence on this Topix thread.(However, you may if you wish.)

4. Why do I quote scripture? To show you absolutely that your thinking is often wrong.(One rule of good communication is to use examples known by your listener. Thus, I cite the Bible to show you how far wrong your are. Would you prefer, perhaps, that I quote Darwin?)

5. I note that you were not "Raptured" yesterday.(And I have often noted that Jesus promised his disciples that he would return in their lifetimes. He is only 2000 years late on that promise.)

WHY DOES OBAMA NEED 1.6 BILLION BULLETS?

Dear Mainstream Media,

Back in 2008, candidate Barack Obama went off his teleprompter and added a couple of sentences to the text of a speech about expanding the Peace Corps and AmeriCorps. Over rolling applause, the soon-to-be president of the United States said:“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

At the time, Joseph Farah of WND.com wrote a column calling on you to help shine a light on what this shocking statement really meant. In a permanent state of vapors over Obama’s candidacy, you were of no use when it came to extracting anything but press releases from Team Obama.

Nearly five years later, it hardly matters that candidate Obama’s promise to double the Peace Corps and the rest has come to naught. But the president’s unscripted determination to empower a civilian national security force is a different story. As far as you’re concerned, though, it’s also a nonstory.

This complacency or complicity has to stop. During the last 10 months, the Department of Homeland Security has purchased 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition, including millions of hollow-point bullets. The department also has purchased 7,000 fully automatic assault rifles, and it has overseen the retrofitting of more than 2,000 light tanks, which, of course, were originally designed to resist the mines and ambushes of the battlefield. Why does DHS need such offensive and defensive firepower?

Remember, DHS stands for Department of Homeland Security, and “homeland,” just to be extremely clear, means the USA. Obama must be asked against which domestic enemy he is arming nonmilitary forces. It sounds incredible, to be sure, but are we watching administration battle plans take shape against American citizens on the streets of Your Town, USA?

"Norton," if you mean the "Nimrod" mentioned in your mythology book, I see that Nimrod is described as the son of Cush, grandson of Ham, and great-grandson of Noah; and as "a mighty one on the earth" and "a mighty hunter before God".

I suppose you believe that all people on earth descend from Noah, so that includes me (assuming that you are correct). I also suppose that I could be described as a "mighty one" in this Topix thread -- "King of the Thread"!(I have done some hunting, but I never shot anything larger than a dog.)

However, "Yellow Dawg Democrat," the skilled hunter -- does have a nice ring to it! I AM pretty good at knocking trolls down from my mountain!

The Republicans fighting each other is indicative of the fact that some like Rove know they are headed towards the cliff.

The issue is Rove and co. are the very same ones who brought the radicals on board.

All the moderate Republicans have been shoved to the side.

I really see no hope for the future of their party

The GOP keeps shooting itself in the foot, then sticking that foot in their mouth, over and over and over again.

They won't " Get it, " until they are completely humiliated one more time.

This is getting quite fun.

1854 - 2012

Truly, I wish the moderate Republicans could regain control of the extremist right-wing party the GOP has become. Perhaps the moderates can simply form another party? I hope so.

Getting rid of the monolithic reactionary foot-dragging-in-lockstep party the Neo-CONs have created would be a great thing for this country.

It is fun, except for the fact that they will not cooperate in getting the economy moving again. In particular, the "Tea Partiers" are clueless to the point of being downright treasonous. They are responsible for the credit rating of these United States having been drug down by their refusal to generate some revenue to help balance the budget.

Any Republicans who have not recanted their signatures on the Norquist pledge should be held accountable at the polls.

A MINORITY VIEW: HIGHER MINIMUM WAGE
In his State of the Union address, President Barack Obama proposed raising the minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $9 an hour. That would be almost a 25 percent increase. Let's look at the president's proposal, but before doing so, let's ask some other economic questions.

Are people responsive to changes in price? For example, if the price of cars rose by 25 percent, would people purchase as many cars? Supposing housing prices rose by 25 percent, what would happen to sales? Those are big-ticket items, but what about smaller-priced items? If a supermarket raised its prices by 25 percent, would people purchase as much? It's not rocket science to conclude that when prices rise, people adjust their behavior by purchasing less.

It's almost childish to do so, but I'm going to ask questions about 25 percent price changes in the other way. What responses would people have if the price of cars or housing fell by 25 percent? What would happen to supermarket sales if prices fell by 25 percent? Again, it doesn't require deep thinking to guess that people would purchase more.

This behavior in economics is known as the first fundamental law of demand. It holds that the higher the price of something the less people will take and that the lower the price the more people will take. There are no known exceptions to the law of demand. Any economist who could prove a real-world exception would probably be a candidate for the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences and other honors.
