St. Louis Is Most Dangerous City in U.S.

A surge in violence made St. Louis the most dangerous city in the country, leading a trend of violent crimes rising much faster in the Midwest than in the rest of nation, according to an annual list.

As the city becomes more segregated this will continue to increase unless these people doing these crimes are going to change. The daily news usually contains accounts of "these" people shooting each other. Does this answer the question why the downtown businesses so often fail, why Northwest Plaza is now becoming vacated?

I moved away from St. Louis over 10 years ago.
I have been wanting to move back because I hate it where I am at. I live in a very small southern town.
Been back to St. Louis a lot and every time I go back I just shake my head. I will not go back to the city. I will go out away from St. Louis. It has gone down hill very bad since I have left. The good neighborhoods are even going down. What a shame. I have step kids there that want out and most of my frends have left the city limits. It is getting to the point that you can't raise your kids right there. The city needs to straighten up or it will be unrepairable!!! Oh how I use to love that city!

In response to this, I would like to say that Saint Louis city is not all that bad. I bought a house in the city. It is in a really good neighborhood. Besides, Saint Louis has Ted Drewe's Custard and the St. Louis Cardinals, the world champions of baseball! In my opinion, every city has its downfalls. You must take the good with the bad in life, Sir.

I agree I moved away from St.Louis about 10 years ago and I recently just moved back, it really isnt any worse then it was then. There are always going to be hateful crimes no matter where you are. Saint Louis is a beauitful place to live I wouldnt want to be anywhere else.

I LIVED THERE THERE IN MY YOUNGER YEARS IT WAS NOT SAFE THEN.........AND I WAS BACK THERE IN 2004 BECAUSE MY GRANDSON SPEND TWO MONTHS IN ST. LOUIS CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL IT WAS REALLY WILD THE NURSE THAT ATTENDED TO MY GRANDSON SAID DON'T BE ON THE STREET AT NIGHT IT IS DANGEROUS OUT THERE AND COULD TELL BY THE THINGS I SEEN WHILE THERE THOSE TWO MONTHS SHE WAS RIGHT NO ST. I grew up in St. Louis city. Just like any other major city it has its problems, but St. Louis is a wonderful place to live. The only difference with St. Louis and other cities is that we report ALL of our crime accurately, therefor paining a picture that we have more crime. If other cities would be honest we'd realize where the dangerous ones are. Come on people - St. Louis, MO is more crime-ridden than the Bronx? I don't think so.

I think that St.Louis is just like any other city, it has it's good and bad parts. So wherever you go you will run into those troubled people. So, again I say, St. Louis isn't as bad as New York City

You made me laugh...first off, you obviously are from some small town here in Missouri so any city to you will be "dangerous." The most dangerous thing you have to worry about is walking into the many rural meth labs or tripping over a propane tank. I have lived in St. Louis, Mo for 31 years and I travel quite frequently and have been to 80% of the major cities in the Nation. I can speak from experience, St. Louis is not the worse and until you have actually witnessed other major cities elsewhere, your one little experience doesn't make the city the worst.

I will definately agree to your statement!! St. Louis is not at all that bad, and take the good with the bad,The whole city is not that bad,"some areas" are worse than others. This is just like any other city. Some of the "nicest people" do live in "St.Louis,Mo". I should know!! So who ever says; it is the "most dangerous", has "NOT" lived there long enough to know. I lived here all my life, I'm almost 50 years old !! Also, other cities is a lot worse then "St.Louis,Missouri", We are...

There is "NO" large city that is "safe" !! But it is "NOT" the most dangerous place to live !!

I bought a house 10 years ago in south st louis in an area of what many described as the hood. I have not had any crime problem at all, the property has tripled in value and the neighborhood is now on the national register of historic places. St. Louis is about as safe as it gets. I also live in a turn of the century mansion - pretty cool !
