Were you successful in opening a pizza place and using the Helen's pizza recipe?

My comment about opening a pizza resturant were in response to a May 17, 2010 post. The poster said all he needed was the dough tecipe which Gary offered to sell hom for $5,000.00 on a May 18, 2010 post. I was just wondering if anything ever came of it. If no one is going to open a business, someone could make a nice bit of cash selling the recipe to us die hard Helen's pizza fans. I'm sure there would probably have to be some kind of personal use only agreement, but it would be a good deal for everyone concerned if it isn't going to be used for business.

I loved Helens up there on Grand Ave near Gravois. That is not a good neighborhood any longer. I love that cornmeal on the bottom of the crust. The sauce was great also.
Helen was my great grandmother it's a shame that my grandmother after my great grandma Helen didn't keep the place going. Wish we could still have it around here today

I lived on Grandview around 1973-1975. My roommates & I ate at Helen's Pizza often. Is the Frank & Helen's the same as Helen's? I remember it being more like a corner bar.I could have sworn we walked there from Grandview. But Grand would have been quite a hike. Why wouldn't someone in that family carry on the famous recipe + name? Great memories!

Grew up in NYC but came to LOVE Helen's after coming here for school in 1967. The sausage pizza was to die for! Myself and two school buddies made a religious pilgrimage to Helen's on each of our birthdays. Not the only time we went there BUT ALWAYS went there for birthday celebrations. Got into Talayna's (when Mike owned it on Skinker) but nothing bested Helen's. I too wish somebody would bring Helen's back - my family gets tired of hearing me talk about how good it was.

It's the recipie that no one else has come close to duplicating. I would give anything for an opportunity to purchase tbe recipie!

Helen's was on Grand and Potomic in south city. They had the absolute best pizza in St. LOUIS. Everytime i tried a new pizza place (after telling my dad about it) he would always ask me: "was it as good as Helen's?"and i would have answer honestly "No!". To this day, I would still have to answer "No!".

Oh MY - I have moved 70 miles south of St. Louis, and I would drive back, on a regular basis to be able to enjoy it again. There was nothing like it, anywhere, and I have had about every kind of pizza across the nation. There are many that are excellent, but Helen's pizza down on south Grand cannot be matched!! Sure hope someone would pass the recipe, so it doesn't die with the founders. Of course, I am sure it would be a little different, since the quality of product probably wouldn't be as high. However, the recipe would give us the opportunity to at least get close. This would be the best birthday present I could give to my 83 year old mother!!!

Did you not get the recipe? You could stop the chain pizza parlors in there tracks. People would flood back for a slice of Helen's original. Hunt that recipe down ,I don't think they had any fancy equipment. You could make a fortune.
