It was a popular consequence back before the 19th and 20th centuries. Now these really stupid parents are saying that it is "child abuse." Why? Spanking is a great way for children to shut up and learn. I agree that slapping them in the face is too far. But a nice 20 whips on the buttocks is good enough. This is why there are much more spoiled brats in this terrible world than there used to be. When I was a child in grade school, I used to use cuss words in class. So I got a whipping by my mother whenever I got home from school. And I never spoke a word after that for a good 4 hours. That's what this world has come to. Parents these days aren't teaching their children the right way to act in life. These kids will most likely end up dying hungry and cold on the side of the street. I want an Xbox 360, but I don't have the money. I don't beg my mother for money and pout, I just work and try to earn money. I do not know why these parents still have children. Do YOU think children should be spanked like they used to back then?

Heck yes! Parents nowadays are trying to be friends with their kids and there are to much competitive parenting going on! Whoever pisses off the kids the least wins! If your kids never dislikes you at some point in their lives you didn't do a good job as a parent!

..... because it's worked for centuries. Kids became very productive individuals. Now, when they act up, we put them on mental drugs that causes long term mental problems..

This is the exact same thing I thought while writing this. I completely agree with your opinion.

Thank you all for your comments. I wrote this to talk about what spanking does as a consequence for a child and how childhood has changed for many young children.

Medicine just f$$ks them up more and more. I totally agree. My friends child has ADHD and he takes medicine for it. He's completely bouncing off of the walls when I'm there.

Did it both ways. Started the "modern" way - did not work whatsoever. Went back to the way my parents brought me up, spanking and all; low and behold, it worked!!!! Some acquaintances, that I know, do the modern way ... including the drugs. It is really frightening to me, but I keep it to myself. I mean, drugs?!?! To a perfectly, otherwise, normal kid? Heck, I don't even take drugs for recreational use or medical.

A few years ago, my now grown son was playing with another kid, who was on some medication because he was "uncontrollable". In fact, I usually kept an eye on him. One day, we had him for 6 hours; they played wonderfully. I was shocked. Told the mother. She said she was sorry and a little surprised, cause she said she has not been able to buy her son's medication. He's been off it for a few days. Now I usually mind my own business, but not this time, I told her the drugs were her son's problem. She said, "oh no, he needs them ... blah, blah, blah. <<<< Horrible >>>>> You would not believe how wide spread this is.

No less parents spank their children now than they did at any point in history. You're reading too many facebook memes. Wise up. If you hit your kids, congratulations. You must be a real treat to have an argument with. Do you hit adults when they don't do what you want? If so, why not? Doesn't it work?

Do not be a idiot. The Old Ways worked. Look at the kids now and look at the ones decades ago (and before). You are just mindless sheep. Spanking is bad, guns are bad, Obama is good, getting a gov't check is good. D@mn, think for yourself for once..... Oh, yeah, the people who don't spank their kids, give them mental drugs and ALL school shootings involved pharmaceutical drugged up kids !!!!!!

i say put cap on the lobbying money. And have special monitoring of large lobbies. Also not allow lobbies to fund opposing parties of the same election.
And completely monitor all public officials finance. Not just when bipartisan politics dictate.
