The Family Laundry in Beckley is a dump. I feel sorry for anyone who went there. I hope people who needed to find a laundromat, found the nice one in Oak Hill on East Main St. It's always super clean with every washing machine and dryer working. If a visitor asks you where to find a laundromat, please don't ever send them to that dump in Beckley. It represents the very worst of West Virginia.

Read the article above from the Charleston Gazette if you don't know what a laundromat has to do with the Boy Scouts and the name of this forum.

I think there are more than one laundromat around here if the one you visited didnt suit you, Including the Brand new one down by Dollar General. Dont know all their names though. But i'm guessing this is just advertisement for the one in Oak Hill or just another Beckley bashing party (?)

I guess it does look like an advertizement but really I'm just an occasional customer of this laundromat in Oak Hill. I used to go to the one in Beckley and always assumed that all laundromats were probably the same. After having a very unpleasant encounter with Eva (the blond woman whose picture is shown in the article), I went looking for a different laundromat and that is how I discovered this one in Oak Hill. It's remarkable how the Oak Hill laundromat never has a single machine out of order and is spotless while the dump in Beckley usually has 20% of the machines out of order and is dirty and nasty. The Oak Hill laundromat is rarely busy and has lots of machines available while the Beckley dump is crowded with people just waiting for working machines to become available. When I find a nice business that is doing everything right, I enjoy sharing my discovery with others.
I live in Fayetteville btw. We no longer have a laundromat here. I'm happy I don't have to drive all the way to Beckley to do laundry now. I feel foolish for never knowing that I had been driving all the way to Beckley unnecessarily when there was this nice laundromat in Oak Hill all the while.

Oh I see. That is a long way to drive for a laundromat, but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do. But there are a few laundromats here, maybe not all so great but usable, plus dry cleaners too.

Many years ago when I used a laundromat it was because I had no machines of my own & I walked to do the laundry. Driving a long way is not an option for some people. As long as the machines were clean, worked and gave the right amount of time and service, I was happy.

(And were located in a safe place - that's important also)

Clean Jean is right about the Family Laundromat in Beckley. I can't see why the Charleston Gazette would interview this woman at this laundromat. It really is a dumpy, dirty place. I had to go there once and probably 12 machines were out of order.
