Sheetz location confirmed:

"The next location the company plans to build is the new location at the intersection of Robert C. Byrd Drive and Neville Street in Beckley. That location will have inside and outside dining, though it won't have a drive thru.

"It will feature 48 parking spots and 12 gas pumps.

"Hazelet said the company would have liked to being construction on it this year, but had to delay the start of construction to next spring.

"'There just wasn't enough time to build that project this summer and have it complete by winter,' he said.

"The location will be the fourth Sheetz in the Beckley area once it opens next summer."

There had been some scuttlebutt that the project location had been abandoned due to inadequate site size. Instead, Sheetz has opted to scale back on the number of gas pumps and forgo a drive-thru.

Hazelet said construction at the Ripley location wouldn't begin until sometime in the spring or summer of 2015, as the company first needs to complete all necessary permitting.

"The Ripley site just got signed Monday," he said. "We usually allow a full year after a signature to allow for construction."

That Sheetz will be built at the current location of the McCoy's Inn, just off I-77 in Ripley. The company will first need to demolish the existing hotel prior to building the new store.

The Ripley location will feature 16 gas pumps, inside and outside dining and a drive thru for food.

The company is also working to sign a second site in Jackson County, as part of the five additional locations Hazelet said the company was currently negotiating to secure.

If so, that's kind of sad. I have family from that area and have attended several functions at McCoy's over the years. McCoy's is a family owned and run business - always hate to see long-established businesses fall by the wayside. OTOH, Sheetz is also a family owned and run business - just on a much larger scale.

Good thing somebody is building something, when the final lump of coal is sold there will be thousands of people looking for a job and the state has done nothing to help offset this.

How many "good paying" jobs do you suspect McCoy's Motor Inn & Conference Center has been providing in the same location?

I read somewhere they are interested in opening stores in Kanawha County but there is a shortage of large flat land here. Well they should just create their own flat land couldn't they?
