While you are at it why don't you drug test all the workers on Wall Street, who are responsible for billions of dollars every day.
you must do drugs

Only if the people sending the checks are tested...
Why pick on the poor while the rich get richer...?
The ones wanting this are the ones who hate that people get money and not work...
I feel like all who can work should. teacher knows more than the students....BUT...THE TEACHER SHOULD KNOW MORE THAN THE STUDENTS BEING TAUGHT...get my

I don't spent my hard earned dollars on drugs and don't appreciate those on the dole wasting MY money on drugs. They should not only be drug tested, they should also have a limit on having children while receiving a check. Welfare was created as a hand up not a hand out. Most people on welfare abuse it and make it a lifestyle.

it's sick a lot of this free money, our tax dollars is going to drugies, they should not get a dime there getting free money so they can buy more drugs.and yes welfare should be drug tested if they were getting a job, they would have to get drug tested.and if they test for drugs they shouldn't get no money.

I don't like the Idea of the government so controling but they have control of our tax dollars and if you are a person who is asking for my tax dollars for assistance(SSI,welfare, etc)the n it should be the governments responsibility to me to make sure they spend it wisely! They owe it to me to let you have my tax dollars!

I get Supplemental Security Income as I am Disabled, I've never taken illegal drugs, heck I don't even drink or smoke, Considering the amount is not even enough to pay rent in most apartment complexes, drugs are a red herring and testing would reveal that the cost out weighs the supposed benefits, I barely survive as It is, I am innocent until proven guilty and most who say that people who get SSI are not disabled, where is Your Medical Degree? What State is Your License to be a Medical Doctor issued from? To get SSI, I found one needs hard Medical Proof, Not a mere made up Diagnosis or someones say so, without any proof, some here out of spite and/or jealousy want to cut Disabled Peoples throats...

THE children of these people who fail the test should be taken away till mom or dad dos better.and when some one is found with A pill that dos not belong too ,the drug company that made it should be fined 5000.00 pr pill.

I work with SSI people five days a week.
Most of them (way over 50%) are mentally disabled, no physical problems at all, or very little.
They are deemed not smart enough to work, or so antisocial they cannot work, so depressed they can not work.

SSI is a hugh drain on the economy.

Why is someone not smart enough to work, or so mentally disabled they cannot work, allowed to have 2, 3 or as many kids as they want, all of cash assistance?
It defies logic.

A bit of good news.
I found out that in California SSI people are not eligible for food stamps. The state gives them extra money on their federal SSI check, so no food stamps.

Unfortunately they still get the medical card.
People who never worked a day in their life because of mental disabilites have better health insurace than most people who work for a living.
About $5000 a year less than this state worker, for about the same coverage.

I have about a dozen on my caseload who spend 6 months a year in jail (usually drug related), and they spend the other 6 months getting $700/mo SSI. plus the medical card and food stamps in our state.

It defies logic.

Where are Your facts? Where's Your medical license? Where's Your Medical Diploma comes from? Unless You have proof beyond doubt, It's like You're saying what Reagan did, a Myth, a LIE. A Drug test without legal cause is an invasion of ones Constitutional right to privacy, I am no less a person than You and I have the same GOD given rights that everyone else does. I could insist that You pay for a Drug/Alcohol Test before You receive Your check, If You make Me, Then I make You, what's good for the goose is good for the gander, but I won't, cause I know better. Got It???

Me I get SSI, I'm Medically Disabled and unable to work, Yer just jealous and spiteful, Not to mention ignorant and prejudiced... Most who get SSI have to qualify with some disabling condition(s) as if they were applying for SSDI(Social Security Disability Insurance) and the medical qualifications are very strict and are the same for both SSI and SSDI, No Medical Proof, No Check, a persons say so whether their a Doctor or not means nothing. Cause unless You've ever applied, You wouldn't know what Yer talking about. Mine are varied, some disabilities I was born with, others were induced in 2002, I don't take drugs, I don't consume alcohol and I don't smoke, heck I can trace My family roots back to 1770 in Wexford Ireland, Yet My family only arrived in Ireland after 1690 from France, but I digress.

The reason for No Food Stamps to SSI recipients in CA is a dispute between the state of CA and the USDA/SSA over who is eligible and who is not eligible based on who they live with and CA wanted to do It one way and the USDA/SSA said No, so No one gets any as a result, so it's an impasse. CA as of 1992 as signed into state law by the then Governor does not give money anymore in lieu of Food Stamps... Yer facts are simply outdated...

Huge drain? A little over 8 Million people get SSI and everyone doesn't get the same amount, one gets only what one needs as SSI is a Needs based Program. Learn to spell will You or get a spell checker like I have done, there I fixed It for You. There are also Seniors who get SSI in addition to their Retirement Checks, If they are over 65 years of age, People who get SSDI also can apply for and get SSI, Me I have physical problems in addition to what You mentioned, I live alone, People who get SSI get the least money, someone who get SS Retirement plus SSI or SSDI plus SSI gets more then I do, CA gives Me $156.40 a month(SSP or State Supplemental Payment), no more no less, SSA gives Me $698.00 a month(SSI) or a total of $854.40 a month and CA is not a cheap place to live at and I was born here, just like My two dead siblings(a Brother and a Sister), heck cause of My very low income I can't even afford the cost to replace My car, repair It Yes, get buried when the time comes? No If one gets SSI one can not own a burial plot worth more than $1500 and last I looked I couldn't find one for less than $2900 and I still have My Moms cremated remains on a shelf, My Brother paid the $600 for that, He died of Lung Cancer after having served in the US Navy for at least 20 years... Yes I'm allowed to own 1 car so that I can get My food, go to the Doctor or for other reasons, like going to see My relatives, without It I can't go anywhere, Oh and I have a Cell Phone too, No It's not Free, I get billed about $43 to whatever Verizon thinks I owe them and I pay It(landlines out here almost don't work as Verizon doesn't replace copper lines out here anymore), My DSL costs $32.83 a month and is dry loop(No phone signal or landline as it's now called), Food is about $200 a month($115.43 this month as I still don't know what the gas/electric will be yet as they are added on to the rent bill), electricity about $60-80 a month, Gas to heat, cook and bathe with(It's physically taxing on My spine/knee to take a shower) costs about $17-60 a month, My Rent is $320, My water is $15, Trash is Free as It's included in the rent, Car insurance is $18.40 a month, gasoline for the car varies, this month gas was $20.00, those are My bills, I pay them like clockwork thru My checking account which SSA has seen. Waste and Fraud doesn't exist here, It's largely a Repugnant myth. Any extra money goes to whatever I deem is something that I may need or want, My TV signal is FREE as It comes from a County Satellite TV Translator about 3 miles away on Elephant Mountain and is paid for by local Property Taxes(they also replaced My coax cable with one that is properly shielded and added a part to keep the amp from over-driving the UHF signal, without the amp the antenna can't receive any signal) of which I had paid into in the past when I owned a mobile home, which is also allowed by the SSA's rules for SSI recipients, I've been getting SSI since 2003 so I'd know all of this. My landlord believes in helping those who are down on their luck as It were(that's almost a direct quote too), but then I always pay by paper check between the 1st and the 5th as stated in the rental agreement, He's happy that I do that as He had a manager steal money or at least that is what the Sheriff said, She didn't last more than 2 months here. The current manager does ok though, She's competent, but then Shes been here at least 3 or 4 months now, I've not heard any complaints about Her from the neighbors.

8 Million SSI recipients.
Full SSI is about $700/mo, but some (about 2.7 million) do get SS. Average of $500/mo in CASH payments.(see my reference)
That is $4.39 BILLION a month,$52 Billion a year.
That is just the cash part.
The medical benefits exceed that, although I have no exact figures.
Many get special consideration for housing and energy.
Conservatively,$100 billion a year, probably twice that.

http://www.ssa.gov/policy/docs/quickfacts/sta...

You forgot to mention that poeple over 65, who have never worked, are AUTOMATICALLY considered disabled, and get full SSI (if resources allow), just because of age.
I have to work until age 66 to get full SS that I worked for. People who never worked, never were considered disabled, get disability a year earlier than the ones that worked and want to retire.
Not only that, they get the full medical card too.
That cost me about $350 per month. It is free for them.

People who never worked a day, get less than people who worked for 40 years, and paid into the fund. Oh my, isn't that a shame. It really breaks my heart, so unfair.

I've seen people who worked their whole life, and get $900 a month social security, and their neighbor, who never worked a day, gets $700/mo PLUS the medical card.

I open new cases of SSI on a regular basis (for the medical portion).
SSD is seldom given for mental reasons, SSI it is the majority.

SSI people have an attitude that they should have a standard of living like people who worked their whole life.
I see that in your post.

Most of us think people who work SHOULD live better than disabled who never or hardly ever worked.
We think that is fair.

So You think I never worked ever? Well I did, I also served in the US Military(with an Honorable Discharge) as did 3 of My deceased relatives, one of whom was a Union Army Major General, He's on My facebook page. And the amount is $698.00, Not $700.00. The medical qualifications are the same for SSDI & SSI, I was told this by the SSA(Social Security Administration).

Since You do not know Me, please do not make claims as to how long I worked, I just had very little medical history as My Family didn't go to the Doctor much(My Dad didn't trust Doctors after WWII I was told, plus He was different Mom said after He came back, He served in the 368th Medical in Europe in WWII as a Corporal(1942-1946), He was in Medical Records), so It took Me 6 years to make up for the lack of a Medical History, My disabilities are real & I wish I didn't have them.

I have physical & some brain problems. At least You're not calling Me a Druggie or an Alcoholic, heck I don't even Smoke, I have enough problems as It is, why would I want those added on? I mean I have Osteoarthritis in My shoulders & other areas, damage to My left ankle cause of surgery on My left leg where 3 titanium screws were inserted(I wore a brace for 3 months, not a cast), I received no rehab & the left ankle doesn't flex nearly as far as It used to & It can be painful to stand or to walk far, When I broke My left lower leg in 2002, I dislocated My right hip socket, My weight went up as a result, My right knee joint now will not climb steps anymore, I'm around 400lbs now, I have lower back problems, problems just doing minor tasks that can cause a red rash around My thighs & intense sweating, I have bad eyesight, heck I can't see very well at night as I stumble into walls without a light of some sort to guide Me, I wear prescription glasses cause without them I can't read books or printed text from the store as it's too small, I have anxiety problems & concentration problems(I use a spell checker as I sometimes miss stuff), I can forget where I put mere photos & I lost for 2 months 2 photos of My relatives which I found by looking for a DVD, I can lose something in plain sight, rather embarrassing really, a low output thyroid, pills were tried but they only raised My body temp, making My core temp go up, Doctors are skeptical of their effectiveness I was told by a Doctor I'd went to, so they were discontinued. This program is supposed to be a needs based program, but I'm not given the tools to even pay for a replacement car loan which I'm allowed to get, as cars don't last forever, or to save up to $2,000.00 & that is difficult to do as so many problems do happen. Heck I still haven't buried My Moms ashes as burial plots cost more than $1,500.00 in California, I'd got an estimate of about $2,900.00 a few years back, I'm not allowed to go beyond $1,500.00 for the plot by SSA's current rules, so She sits on a shelf in a box, in a bag, when I die I expect My relatives may do something, but what I don't know.

I'm also 6'1" tall and I'm expected to die, when is not known, My problems are classified as severe by the SSA, otherwise I'd not have a check every month and being 51 years old, I have little hope of competing against people half My age, as My education is just a GED and a couple of adult education certificates from about 30 years ago, which are nearly worthless now. I'd love to live to 94 like My Uncle on My Dads side of the Family(Whom I never met), or to at least 82 like My Grandpa who is at least locally still acknowledged in one city in Southern California, He's been gone since 1969, Yet He's on a City webpage after all these years, go figure, He was a Police Chief and a City Councilman, My Uncle was the Fire Chief of the same City as the one My Grandpa served, I was told this by My Deceased Brother, the City is Culver City CA.
