"Kerrick Johnson, vice president of the Vermont Electric Power Co., the company that runs the statewide large-scale transmission backbone for Vermont's utilities, said his company is legally required to be neutral about power sources.

But Johnson said power production by homeowners and businesses — known as "distributed generation" — was a big part of the reason his company had been able recently to drop plans for about $250 million in system upgrades.

Then it's the same old sad song:"
Not collecting those costs from all members "results in a cost shift to those members without net metered installations," Washington's general manager, Patricia Richards, said in an email. "As a not for profit electric utility, which is owned by our members, our only recourse for recovering insufficient revenue is to increase rates."

This tells me that Patricia is not doing her job. It looks like WEC has "bundled" all of the costs into the KWh rate, instead of breaking them out into a monthly fee paid by all. Whose fault is that? A poor arcane business model should not a rate increase make.

Yup, looks like the backbone of the power system has been able to turn their $250M into someone else's $XXXM. The only question, is what does that XXX equal?

WEC is ahead of the pack on net metering and is discovering what the issues are. WEC is a leader that should certainly be listened to, despite Solarman's snide comments.

Refresh us with YOUR "answer". So, when you open your Mom's electric bill each month do you assume the position in your stirrups or does Mom have to take care of that too? You're part of the problem Kiteman, lead, follow or get the hell out of the way.

Gotcha, Kiteman,"You Jabs...." You're NOT leading anyone with your entitled whining. You would actually have to DO something other than cry. So, what is it that you DO to take responsibility for your energy use?

I tell people the truth about issues like are presented in this article.

(Unfortunately, this is one forum that doesn't have an edit function, so typos sometimes creep in.)

Just because YOU can't accept my statements doesn't mean they are lies. It just means you are directly involved and can't bring yourself to accept that you are a thief (If what you have stated earlier is true).

Yeah, right do nothing. Just because YOU deny being a liar doesn't mean you're not. Your point was? What is it YOU have done to take responsibility for your energy usage?

Not just mine.

"The utilities contend that customers without solar panels are subsidizing those who have them, by paying more for the power-generating stations, transmission lines and distribution wires that both groups use. They want regulators to change that pricing structure so people with solar panels pay more."
