Does anyone know if the person (child) that fell from one of the Okemo chairlifts is OK? I can't find any info on it.

I have been trying to find out the same thing. Do you know it's a child? How did it happen?

My wife heard from a kid that the child was with its father. We rode up the same lift and saw the ski patrol working on the kid about 2 minutes after it happemed. I'm hoping its not a horrible tragedy.

looks to be a broken leg, may need surgery...but he's apparently okay, other than that, and VERY lucky! Sending the best to he and his family!

well, I don't want to be a black cloud, but I was skiing Okemo yesterday and a couple of people told me that a child was killed a couple days ago falling 70 feet from the lift. I am not sure if it is true or not but I heard it more than once and have not been able to find any published account. The person I spoke to said that the child was wearing a helmet but that it shattered...

I hope this is just a story gone bad, but as i sat there with my own kids thinking about it myheart went out to Dad and Mom..

I found something published - good news>
LUDLOW A 5-year-old boy who fell out of a chair lift Tuesday afternoon on Okemo Mountain is in stable condition at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Okemo officials said Thursday.

Director of Marketing Scott Clarkson said he did not know where the boy was from, other than he was from out-of-state.

Clarkson said the boy was riding with his aunt and sister on the North Star Express, the main quad lift for the mountain, when he slipped out and fell approximately 25 feet.

His parents were in the quad chair behind him.

Clarkson said the boy has shown improvement since arriving at the hospital, where he was treated for a broken leg. He said doctors there are looking into performing surgery on the leg to repair the bone.

Our prayers go out to the little boy who fell from the lift. My husband and daughter were behind him on the lift and I was in the lodge. God bless.

To all of you

I just found this chain of emails wondering how little Jake is doing. I am his uncle and came up to Okemo on Wednesday after the accident. Below is a synopsis of what happened as composed by one of my other sisters. In addition today Feb 27th we received word that Jake is being discharged from Dartmouth Hitchcock tomorrow and will be going home for his rehab. THANK YOU TO ALL YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS AND CONCERN!! My sister Kathleen, Brother in law Jake and their 3 other children certainly could use your prayers.

As most of you already know, Kathleen and Jake have been at the Dartmoth Hitchcock Trauma Center since Tuesday with little Jake. Jake fell from the chairlift at Okemo. His injuries consist of a fractured skull, 3 broken ribs, a partially collapsed lung, and a broken and displaced femur. The heavens were with us at that moment because our little fighter has already undergone a 3-hour orthopedic procedure to place 2 flexible rods in his femur. Jake initially had a tube draining internal bleeding, a feeding tube, a tube draining his stomach, an IV, he was on a respirator and placed in traction for his leg injury. Jake has for the most part responded positively to all neurological testing. All things will take time. It seems there are good days and some not so good days. Please pray for more good ones. Kath, Jake and little Jake all finally got 9 hours of sleep last night. That's more than they got all week.

Erin, Luke and Ella have been back at the condo with my parents, Karen, and Tom and Denise in shifts. Jake will be bringing them home to their house tomorrow (Monday). He will be heading back to New Hampshire on Tuesday.

Today's good news, Jake ate part of a pancake, he has spoken some sentences (Mommy, I need you, Mommy what's all this junk on me?, Mommy, why am I here?)
All of Jakes tubes have been removed, yet he continues to spend most of the day sleeping. At times he is aware and at times he's confused and scared. Physically, he is doing miraculously well. Due to many medications, they will only be able to see neurological progress this week. PRAY we will have more good to share.

Tom - Thanks so much for taking the time to respond. I, as probably many people have had an empty feeling, seeing and hearing what happened and not knowing anything. It is so good to hear he is on the mend. He is obviously a fighter considering what he has been through. We will continue to pray for Jake and family.

Thank you. I know this was trivial compared to the little boy who was hurt, but we were in the back up for hours and hope everyone was O.K. in that accident. Thanks again. Hope Jake and his family are doing well. Prayers and thoughts to them.

I was on the chair, too, and saw that poor kid lying in the rocks below. How in the world can you fall out of a chair if the bar is down? Gives me the shivvers.

My prayers go out to Jake and his entire family. Glad to read Tom's report. My son and I were on the chair 2 and 3 cars back and witnessed the entire event. Was horrifying to witness, I cant imagine how horrifying it was for Jake adn his sister and aunt. We've been wondering ever since how he's doing, so very glad to hear he's doing well given the circumstances. Hope Tom can keep us updated. We continue to think about Jake.

Hello once again to everyone!! Again, my entire family cannot thank you all enough for your prayers and concerns. Jake is now home as of Tuesday the 28th and is going through a lengthy rehab process (OT, PT, Speech, etc) in the comfortable surroundings of his own home with the entire family at his side. He had an Oreo cookie last night. Thought that was quite nice and normal!! He is hopefully on his way to full recovery. The continuous prayers are a comfort to the family more then you will ever know. Thank you once again and I will pass on any updates as they become available....Oreo Cookies and all!!

Thank God! I don't know this boy or his family. I was in Connecticut, planning to head up to Okemo, as usual, for the weekend when I heard about the accident. My heart sank and I cried. We canceled our plans to ski and I did not know the outcome of the accident. After reading the posting I am sitting here crying again but this time out of happiness for Jake and his family. I will continue to pray for Jake each time I look at my 6 and 8 year old sons. What a miracle.

I am so glad to hear that Jake is making progress. I went over him on the chairlift after the ski patrol were with him and have been worried about him ever since. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.
