Vermont's African American Heritage Trail

Feb 20, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: EDGE

When it comes to our nation's diversity, Vermont has a strong history of firsts: the state was the first to abolish slavery in its constitution as well as the first state to enroll and graduate a black student who went on to serve in state legislature.

The state is a joke. They don't recognize their Native People. It's become the social armpit of the Northeast. Want to live on welfare? Come to VT. They hand it out like candy at Halloween.

Well, you call yourself GrnMtnBoy but apparently you live in N.H.; so maybe you didn't like it here and got out? Why not let it go, sounds like it's not your problem anymore and put your energy elsewhere.

Vermont is fantastic.

It has some of the absolute lowest crime rates in the entire country (the 3rd safest state in the entire country in fact, behind Maine and NH), the highest standards of living, and some great landscapes and friendly people. It also has tons of killer Mom 'n Pop shops and some of the best Microbrewers in the country (The Alchemist and Hills Farmstead come to mind,) lots of places are very green and "Old timey" in feel, for lack of a better term.

That being said, it's kind of funny for VT to have an African American Heritage Trail, it's the second or third whitest state in the entire country (behind NH and Maine) and is something like 95%- 98% white. I mean, there are way more Canadians in VT than there are black people (nothing against black people or anything, it's just the way it is up here.) It is one of the top 2 or 3 LEAST racially diverse states in the entire country.... so I'm left to assume that VT's African American Heritage Trail is one Hell of a short hike.
