Judge Cashman should be impeached. This can not happen in the United States. We value our CHILDREN and we must protect them.
There needs to be a new trial.

This sentence is reprehensibl as was the crime. This judge should be impeached and a sentence much more deserving of this crime should be applied, like life in prison as in the sentence any child of abuse recieves by these predators. A presidence should be set for any one comitting such an act.

Having had some first hand knowledge of how some judges
behave in the court room, I have to say that it seems to
difficult for these people to set the example they themselves
expect the public to abide by. It isn't easy to sit in
judgement of other human beings, but to offer,(because that's
what it sounds like) a brief jail term for an admitted pedophile
is a sad day indeed. I personally believe all pedophiles should
be put down like a rabid dog. Too bad so many people have lost it, including this judge.

My gut feeling when I first heard the news blurb on this was immense outrage. However, I would like to believe that people don't become judges because they're complete idiots and that there is some wisdom and fairness in every decision they make. Reading more this judge's comments, he tried to behave in the public's best interest. The rapist has the IQ of a 12 year old despite being 34 and is confused as to why people are so upset. In his opinion, this person would be more likely to be rehabilitated if he got immediate treatment and he was deemed as low risk for reoffending. The problem here is that we believe that the healing for the victim is all about the condemnation of her attacker. Sorry, as a survivor myself, I know that you have to get over punishing the attacker as a starting point for healing. The work of dealing with the abuse is all internal, all personal and has nothing with the punitive system we have in place as a society. Additionally, this rapist did not get off scott free. Should he step one toe out of line, he gets 10 years to life. Not exactly free.

For anyone that believes the punishment is correct....let's see how you would feel if a 6 year old relative was raped. Would you still believe 60 days is enough?

The sentence in this case is certainly unacceptable. Cashman seems to have lost his way as far as being a judge goes. Punishment is one of the key factors in dealing with criminals, and this case is one of the worst offenses someone can commit. What really bothers me about the whole affair is the total lack of response on the part of the citizens and government of Vermont. I have seen no public outrage other than the national media (ie: Bill O'Reilly). Where are the protestors? Why is the government so silent? It only took Florida 1 week to get "Jessica's Law" into being. Vermont needs this law as does every state in the nation.

I'm with you - WHERE ARE THE PEOPLE OF VERMONT!.
Doesn't it make you wonder, what this Cashman has under his
sleeve, which won't make the citizens, the Child Avocates, etc. go after him. What are they so afraid of?

I can't even begin to fathom! But, somebody needs to bend him
over and put a cowpoker somewhere.

Isn't it SAD, that ONLY 3 STATES have PASSED JESSICA'S LAW!
This is absurd - this must stop.

I will second it, third it, and forth it! This judge has lost all sense of justice. He hides behind the mask of "rehabilitation", but there is no such thing for pedophiles. I liken it to homosexuality...it is in the wiring of the brain. Not so many years ago, society thought being gay was psychological malady tht could be "
treated." Now we believe differently. How long before we come to terms with the facts regarding pedophiles?

Judge Cashman is a disgrace along with the Vermont Legislature, Governor, and Attorney General because without removing the judge is the equivalent of supporting him.

I have to agree with you on the rabid dog part. Children are our most vulnerable and precious assets, they must be protected at all costs. They are our future and one incident such this little girl went through will scar them for life. Do I think 9 years is enough, no way… I’m disgusted and ashamed with this ruling. It is sending the wrong message to pedophiles, we should be sending the message once is all it takes and you will not have another chance to hurt another child. Death or life in prison, either would be appropriate. I personal would go with the death penalty because they are not worth our tax dollars. I am a nurse and have great empathy for people but pedophiles have abused such innocent trust there should be no second chances.

I say let him serve the 60 day sentence, but during those 60 days, he must have his penis surgically removed so that he could not harm anyone else with it. So he has to sit down to pee, poor baby. Or he should just

The judge should be sentanced to 60 days in a room with the rapist. He should never be allowed to sit as a judge agian. He should lose his pension and any benifits that come with the job. He is as worthless as the rapist. I am sick of hearing stories about children be raped and or murdered. There are to many evil men in this country. We are in Iraq killing "evil men" by the thousands, why do they get off light in this country. Why is it O.K. to kill bad men in another country but not at home. We should be executing these men by the thousands not giving them light sentances and years of appeals. They have no place or value in society. What happened to common sense? Its leaving the country just like our jobs. This judge should be ashamed of himself for even considering anything less than 10 years. He should have to look into the eyes of the little girl for an hour or two so maybe he can see for himself the innocence that was lost with this despicable act.

This is an oft-repeated inaccuracy. The court transcript shows his overall IQ to be 101. It was in the subcategory relating to judgment that he scored equivalent to a junior high schooler.

The Jessica Lunsford Act (H.R. 1505 of the 109th Congress), also known as Jessica's Law, is a proposed law in the United States which would, if adopted, mandate more stringent tracking of released sex offenders. The bill is named for Jessica Lunsford, the nine-year-old Florida girl believed to have been abducted and killed in February of 2005 by convicted sex offender John Evander Couey.

The bill was introduced by U.S. Congresswoman Ginny Brown-Waite R-Florida.

What is going on with that?

I cant find more info on it, whats stopping that bill from passing?
If you read more about it sounds very promising!
It would be a federal offense as it should be!

I agree with Tess in Lori only in the fact that we dont know all the details, granted it is very wrong but i cant put my foot down either way unknowing of all the facts.. but thats just me...
anything related to rape is disgusting and wrong..
on that basis alone i think the rapist shuold be strung by his testes and ....tarred and feathered.. i like the idea of makign him a eunich .. thats simple.. and if done right he would no longer be a threat to society... plus Death seems like an easy escape... maybe as a living example he would frighten others from commiting disgusting crimes.

As a rape victim at a young age, i can assure you that 60 days is not nearly enough to bring a person like this to justice. The one rapist that didn't get away with what he did to me was given a 7 year probation sentence. and when i was forced to come face to face with him again against my wishes and was too afraid to say anything, what good did that do? im sure to some i would sound like a monster, even after what he did, but when i heard that he died, i felt like i should have been celebrating. hence why i believe the country should invest its ability to punish by death when it comes to rapists. that is the only felon the justice system is not punishing enough. the emotional trauma one must endure for the rest of their lives is horrible, and sixty days will not nearly cover the lifetime of pain this little one must live.

Don't you belive in the vote this is the reason Vermont elects such Liberal officals. So that they can put a Judge like Cashman on the bench. What till next year when we get a liberal Governor to go along with the 60% legislator. Then Vermont will be so far left and liberal we will make Obama look like a far right Republican

Daily Horoscope for December 7

Leo

If there have been slight tensions or frictions between you and a loved one recently, this is the perfect day to get them out into the open, thrash them out and then forget about them. Things could get quite heated in the process but don't worry because they'll work out all right in the end. Put as much energy into kissing and making up as you did in arguing!
