Judge Edward Cashman should be the darling of conservatives: a churchgoer, a former prosecutor, a Vietnam vet and a member of the bench known for his hard-line stands: A decade ago he jailed for 41 days the ...

I will no longer allow my family in the State of Vermont. If this is how your judges treat rapists...how is anyone safe in the state of Vermont...

This is an outrage! How can a so called church going man sit there and say that this is for the best. That all this rapist needs is some help. This country is in serious need of an enema. I think that this so called judge should be showed exactly what that little girl went through, then maybe he would see that the only therapy in need here was some old fashion justice. I mean come on everday people are coming up with different ways to side step the law. Whats the point in having any laws if there not inforced. I say impeach his butt and get someone on there who can get the job done right.

If any of you out there arn't sure about who's side you're on on this issue be sure to read the sentencing hearing transcript at: http://burlingtonfreepress.com/assets/pdf/BT1...
The best part is on page 112 where he (Cashman) calls the girl's situation "remedial". And please be sure to sign the petition:
http://www.petitiononline.com/gocash/petition...
I have 2 kids and would really like to see this guy get the boot.

I am glad you posted the links to the transcripts. If you read them, you will see that Hulett and KG's family were questioned by DCF (Child Welfare) nearly three years ago about an abuse allegation. DCF was not able to substantiate such because no one would talk. Now if DCF sent an investigator to your home regarding abuse, would you have allow "Uncle Mark" to sleep in you house anymore, let alone in your daughter's bed, and hold hands with her on the sofa, or have other "affectionate displays" with her?

The Vermont media were silent on the issue that this girl was taken into state's custody last April. I got that from the O'Reilly interview transcript with the parents. Hulett The Villian sells stories. KG's moronic parents putting their daughter/step-daughter in harm's way of not just one pedophile but two apparently does not. I guess no one wants to point the finger at the family out of fear of losing readership. How sad.

As a Vermonter, I welcome a boycott by small, minded people from Florida. We don't need your mentality in this beautiful state. If you had read the transcript by Judge Cashman, you would have understood the points he was trying to make. You can't jail a mentally retarded individual for a year or two, release him, and expect the problem to go away. Judge Cashman was pointing out that we need to find a better solution and he is right. Judge Cashman has a fine record and was looking for a better solution than the law presently allows.

Funny thing go to the website: www.familywatchdog.us and look at the magnitude of Registered Sexual Offenders per capita in Florida.

Florida ranks 3rd in offenders with 30,068 or 1,847 offenders per million people. It is led only by California and Texas, respectively in number of offenders. However, Florida leads the nation in offenders per million people.

Vermont statistics are not available on this site, but seeing as the boycotting southerners managed to get themselves online, they can figure out how to get the VT records. Maybe then they'll stop and think.

PS. Please do us all a great big favor and go right ahead and boycott. Ya'll can keep the mouse, the blue haired early birds and your 30,068 Registered Sexual Offenders.

Florida has Jessica's law now where their judges can't make that same mistake as Vermont's... It's amazing that Vermont is even deffending him for this...

Jessica's Law appears to be great for filling in the gaps in Megan's law.

I wouldn't say that Vermont is defending him, at least not all of it -- there are a fair number of Vermonter's on the petition mentioned earlier on this thread.

Hey there Ms. Kathy Poo--
We will keep our Mickey Mouse thank you very much! And of the 30,068 figure you list how many of that number relocated to Florida from the "beautiful" state of Vermont? That's exactly my point. There are more "transplanted" Floridians (myself included) here than native Floridians that are left. I guess y'all snowbirds up that way just can't keep away from our beautiful, sunny, shorelines. Why is that?

Hey Mr. JimSneak Poo (when did this turn formal? LOL)

The bottomline is that Florida has over 15,000,000 people and 33,068 registered offenders. Vermont has 608,000 people and 2,000 regestered offenders. Texas and California, both very large states, also have very proportionately large populations of sexual offenders. It would appear that the larger the general population, the larger the number of registered offenders.

Now given the small population and small number of offenders in Vermont, how many could possibly have migrated to Florida?

When I check my home state's offender registry, 4 Floridian offenders appear in 2 zip codes out of 5 I entered. So while you can comment that some offenders may be entering Florida from Vermont, I can state with confidence that 4 offenders have entered my township from Florida. But this is splitting hairs. No one place is immune from these dirtbags.

We both abhor sexual predators, I feel that I can safely state that we would agree on that fact. We both care about keeping the innocent safe. Mouse or mountain, snowbird or snowboard, north or south, our hearts are in the right place.

Thank you for reinforcing for me the reasons that I love Vermont! There are still people in this world who can think on their own. Bravo for not being sucked in by the sensationalism of a story and for truly understanding the point.

Well I keep on loggen on here, hopeing to see someone actually stand up for the rights of our kids. I take it that weekend dude doesnt have any daughters and cassie doesnt either... Were are the people from verm. that want to protect the children from predetors like that.. It should have been 25 yrs to life whether mentally handicapped or not.. that poor girl will relive this the rest of her life.. I for one have a 5 yr old daughter and find it rediculous that the people in vermont want to help the villan instead of protecting the inocent..

Our neighbor molested kids when I was growing up, and he's still in jail to this day. The inmates at one point did make his bed on fire. They really don't like guys who prey on kids in the can.

So what are we going to do about Ohio Judge John Connor? That is the subject of this evening's "Talking Points Memo."

In just a few moments, we'll hear from the parents of two young people killed by a repeat drunk driver who Judge Connor would not incarcerate. This is the same Connor whom we confronted over the weekend after he sentenced a child rapist to probation. No prison time at all. The rapist, Andrew Selva, admitted to abusing two boys in the worst possible way ages five and 12 repeatedly over three years, and Connor lets him walk.

Why? Here is what Connor said:

"He's got a disease like I've got a disease. I don't know that prison would have helped, except for revenge and revenge is not in the sentencing guidelines."

Connor might be referring to his own alcohol problem. He has been convicted twice for DUI, arrested for that at least or possibly eight times. We can't nail it down. But that doesn't matter. Connor's life doesn't matter. The main problem is that that judge will not protect children or adults. He is simply unfit for the bench.
