As a seventy seven year old with Alzheimers I would wish to plan and organize a civilized death prior to entering the later stagesof deterioration. Having spent a most enjoyable and active life I do not wsth to end my days (possibly many of them) in a care home or being a total blight on my wife's life. In my personal view late Alzheimers is an undesirable state I do not want to suffer and I would welcome the UK equivaalent of theSwiss Digniatas or Oregon alternative.s Peoplle deserve to be able to make this decision : and all should have the opportunity to make such a choice. 5614

As a healthy 71 year-old living in California, I would like a law here such as Oregon's or the one being debated in Vermont. One source of anxiety over how my life might go in its last years would be removed, especially the anxiety that my family and I would be forced to do something illegal and dignity-destroying that could also expose them to prosecution. In fact, this whole scenario is explored in my new novel What You Wish For, a family saga set in the Napa Valley and based on a real life situation. For more info, please see this link:

being allergic to most painkillers and having terminal cancer, I would welcome this choice. Some people ask why it needs to be sanctioned by the rest of the people. Under current rules if one commits suicide, his life insurance wont pay out and there is a stigma attached to suicide that affects ones family. I am not looking forward to the pain and suffering that has already started, and I would like to spare my family the stress of watching me waste away in agony.
