How about putting a list of all the state-funded organizations in the paper, with there salaries/
#2 Jan 31, 2009
I get it, you supposed to be disgusted with the high salaries, then you cut the whole program off at the knees.
Right, you are using the economic crisis as the excuse to cut off programs for the poor.

What isn't there to understand Hinsdale Mike. The State of Vermont is on wellfare. Vermont is not and has not been open to business and so has no takings. Squeezing blood from a stone is not an option in this economy. This is what happens to a tax supported systems when the rich take a big hit. The kindest thing to do is to be truthful to all those suckling off the taxpayers teats. They must be weaned off and begin support themselves to the best of theri abilities. In order for them to do that, VT must not only open its door to business, it must "motivate" business to walk through that door.

Here is an idea, actually lower the cost of doing business in Vermont. Worked for Keene.

Hey Mike, I did find out some interesting information for you. I put it on the "Of Taxes and Men" thread. What I would like you to consider is this. While a proposal is on the table to cut some salaries of not for profit employees, this area of work has also accounted for a considerably larger chunk of growth in Vermont than other jobs over the last 5 or so years.

So who am I in John Steinbeck's “Of Mice and Men”
I just think a lot of this private philanthropy comes for the philosophy of reducing the size of government...mostly business and public tax write offs.
It’s a displacement of government...it’s a move toward decentralized and disorganization.
If it was government, the policies across board would be transparent and standardized.
At the end of the day, we are valuing money more that we a value human life. It's a grave sin.

A common conservative fallacy - Vermont drives out all the business and has no jobs and is "on wellfare" [sic]. So everybody sits around lazily mooching off welfare.
You can tell that these people don't get out much, or they would see the business and people working and people moving in to Vermont, and they wouldn't be able to cling to these tired old fallacies.

The facts don't support your claim. Check out, "Of Taxes and Men".

"In the last 12 months, the number of net new private sector jobs in Vermont was zero."

To A Mouse
By Robert Burns
Standard English Translation
Small, sleek, cowering, timorous beast,
O, what a panic is in your breast!
You need not start away so hasty
With hurrying scamper!
I would be loath to run and chase you,
With murdering plough-staff.
I'm truly sorry man's dominion
Has broken Nature's social union,
And justifies that ill opinion
Which makes thee startle
At me, thy poor, earth born companion
And fellow mortal!
I doubt not, sometimes, but you may steal;
What then? Poor beast, you must live!
An odd ear in twenty-four sheaves
Is a small request;
I will get a blessing with what is left,
And never miss it.
Your small house, too, in ruin!
It's feeble walls the winds are scattering!
And nothing now, to build a new one,
Of coarse grass green!
And bleak December's winds coming,
Both bitter and keen!
You saw the fields laid bare and wasted,
And weary winter coming fast,
And cozy here, beneath the blast,
You thought to dwell,
Till crash! the cruel plough past
Out through your cell.
That small bit heap of leaves and stubble,
Has cost you many a weary nibble!
Now you are turned out, for all your trouble,
Without house or holding,
To endure the winter's sleety dribble,
And hoar-frost cold.
But Mouse, you are not alone,
In proving foresight may be vain:
The best laid schemes of mice and men
Go often askew,
And leaves us nothing but grief and pain,
For promised joy!
Still you are blest, compared with me!
The present only touches you:
But oh! I backward cast my eye,
On prospects dreary!
And forward, though I cannot see,
I guess and fear!

Remember, John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men” and "The Grapes of Wrath" were written through the hind sight of the great depression in 1937 and 1939.
John spends a lot of time talking about how the terrible economy dehumanized most of us....and it dehumanized and starved the least of us the most.
Basically these tax issue discussions sets it up where they want you to create and intensify dehumanization to the poor and least of us....
People need to think about is 1937 and 1939 really our future?
How will this economic crisis dehumanize us in the future. Will it always be about numbers or will it be about suffering people?
What everyone is talking about in “The Grapes of Wrath” and “Of Mice and Men...our economic crises is making these works speak to us in a way we have never heard before.
Doesn’t “To a mouse” speak to you anew?
“And forward, though I cannot see,
I guess and fear!”

I'm really more of a cat myself.

"Worked for Keene"? Dude, Keene is a *hithole! Sure it has pretty corners, but overall most of us would rather work a bit harder and live in a nicer place.
#14 Feb 1, 2009
Keene: Malls next to malls next to malls; multi-lane highway strips; lousy local facilities. Whatever Keene does, we should avoid. I agree with Rrr, I'd rather work a little harder and live in Bratt.
Oh look - "Works for Your Living" thinks s/he works harder than the rest of us! Get a clue, loser!
#15 Feb 1, 2009
The only thing that matters is “ncome”...we should be working less and thinking more!
Right, the masses of the world are demanding income, if not, rebellion.
#16 Feb 1, 2009
GFNB, or whoever you are today, I deal in facts for the most part, but let me give you an opinion for a change. Living with smaller incomes is the price we pay for living in paradise. For example, someone in my career in Vermont could expect to earn a starting salary of 94,000 a year. If I chose to live in CT, I would expect a starting salary of 123,000. That is not figuring in the cost of living index.

The last job I had I was making $8 a hour with no benefits...it went bankrupt before they could fire me... the one before that was at WalMart making $9 an hour.
#18 Feb 1, 2009
You don't "work for my living" you hate spouting scumbag. I make a fine living, I work hard, and I earn every penny. And I see the title here is part of the conversation, who gives a *uck! "Works for your living". We either use fake names or real names. You want to be a macho man? Use your full real name, then perhaps I'll follow suit. Otherwise shut the hell up and worry about the content, not the freaking fake names.
And again. The subject: I work HARD for a living, and real job MAKING stuff, not moving paper around. How about you angry boy?
#19 Feb 1, 2009
I think you shuold get paid way more for your hard work
I work hard to get a big income and get the American dream without insecurity.
I work hard for security!

Don't expect a pitty party from me. I grew up in a trashy little trailor park called "Freedom Acres". I was a lucky SOB though, an advocate(Dale)from MDS got to me before I got to myself. Once I got over myself I made a choice. I had two choices 1. I could use my LD as an excuse or 2. I could choose to be smart. I still remember the day I chose to be smart. I had just been suspended for attacking a 7th grade moron who just couldn't seem to leave me alone. It just clicked that day, I got suspended like I always did, and the moron got a walk. I'll bet he is still a moron.
Brighten (my real name)
