Vermont is the small bus with kids that wear hockey helmets on the road of business development. Lacking, cheap energy, trained (and young) workforce, high transportation cost. Chime in...have I missed anything?

Well keep that hope. Personally I think being prepared and right, is preferable to being unprepared and right.
The patterns of empire are very old, and its not like "some", or "most" end up collapsing/restructuring - they "all" do. But you arrogant twits think the end of America means the "End of the Wooooorrrrllld". Just like the Soviets thought the same thing. The Greeks, Egyptians, British, etc ... we will be fine, it just means new agreements.
And any nation that consumes more than in produces? Always meets the same fate. But hell, "think positive"! Its such happy New Agey stuff!:-)
Personally, thinking of the current system collapsing IS thinking positive!

Gospel of St. John:
46
I am come a light into the world, that whosever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
47
And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
48
He that rejectheth me, and receivth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
49
For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father wich sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say and what I should speak.
50
And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak threfore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
It only what the population could understand...they hadn't even invented books yet.

Good point. I'm sure there were Roman sub jurisdictions that collapsed before Rome as a whole.

Not if it is manufacturing low end / low tech junk. We should specialize in high end manufacturing like Germany has.
