Have you people ever noticed how many cancer deaths we have in S.W. Virginia?Did you know(look it up yourself) that some medical experts have said it could be coming from pollution of the air, soil, water supplies, the pollution stemming directly from coalmines, gas wells??? Coal mines, gas well create jobs, mega bucks for the CEO'S,but can't they agree to work with the EPA for cleaner coal, gas distribution?
maybe

Other than people who are disabled who collect Social Security, the rest have paid into the Social Security program. So the people who have paid into it shouldn't get their money? I hope when you reach the age to collect it, you opt not to.

F the coal miners. I'm voting Obama. If you're so stupid to let Morgan Griffith Screw you and blame it on Obama, you deserve to lose your double-wide and your 400 pound wife. Miss Boucher yet?

Hey check this out ..... Ron Ramsey has met with the unemployment people and wants to be certain that no miners get any more than they can possibly get. And it's federal money, not even state..... Also, between him and Morgan Griffith, they are already planning their attacks on Miners after the elections.

After November 6th, you will go from hearing "Obama ruined the coal mines" to "OK, Obama ruined the coal mines, but these miners need to get off the couch and get a job and stop waiting for handouts." That will start on Novemeber 7th...watch what I tell you......

Alpha is in Australia making TONS of GREEN and your water supply is likely ruined.
Now get out there on November 6th and vote for A godless multi millionairre who couldn't give two shits about your working ass.....like I said, if you're that stupid, I hope you o hungry

Hay, this should make you feel better. Morgan Griffith voted against black lung benefits and aid to the widows.

You ignorant hillbillies....

Even though I would not want to see anyone starve or have it rough, I am also amazed that these people can't figure out exactly what you just said. It's all the truth. Romney will get their votes and they will get the shaft. They won't even be able to get any help when times are bad like they can now under Obama.

Isn't it true that most the miners tend to hurry to the unemployment office so they can get a check for being laid off? Why not look for a job immediately to get paid and earn it instead of making it out to be a vacation?

And just maybe you should be concerned about not making yourself look so stupid. Your "legacy" has passed you by and is becoming obsolete. How much of an education do YOU have? HS? College? Are you employable at anything OTHER than coal? If you're female, what education/skills do YOU have to offer society?

You have NO ONE to blame but yourselves for depending on 1 singular industry for your livlihood. This is the 21st Century, aka 2012. You either LEARN TO ADAPT or you will die. The area is NOT the first, nor will it ever be the last to go through something like this. Ask Pittsburg and Allentown and other towns and cities that have lost industries due to advancements in technology and/or the enviroment.

Stop your bitching and moaning and whining. You have no one to blame but yourselves.

And just what kind of an education do you have to be able to adapt yourself for something other than the coal mine? Do YOU and others like you have the necessary SKILL SET for today's w world? Or do you prefer to sit back and bitch and moan and groan about an industry that has become depleted and obsolete? You're not the first, nor the last, to be in this position. Ask the people of the steel mill towns.

Learn to adapt or die. This is the 21st Century. You have NO ONE ELSE to blame but yourselves for this mess.

The great grandfathers of today's coal miners engaged in armed combat with the same forces behind "Friends of Coal" at Blair Mountain, Matewan and a host of other places.
Today's coal miner has become a cheerleader for those same forces. It is sort of like a chicken cheering for Colonel Sanders.

Hah,hah, hah.Got to be the unniest post on here.Yes,coalmines are the heartbeat of the area I live in..know a lot of miner's/families,have relatives that are/were coalminers, and have 100% compassion for them and their plight.Do they not know that Crutchfield, ceo of Alpha,is a Republican Mormon, like Mitt Romney? Do they forget how Reagan/Bush ignored coalmines in the '80'-'90's? I heard many a coalminer lament as to how Bush didn't care for coal, only oil! They say history wouldn't be repeated,if people would only remember the past!

And one also has to remember that was >100 years ago.
There's an old saying - the more things change, the more they stay the same.
However, this IS 2012, not the 1900s, and coal is no longer as plentiful or easy to mine as it was 100 years ago. Technology has changed. The WORLD has changed.
The bottom line is - learn to adapt to the world or die. The world does NOT and never will revolve around the coal industry. The industry AND its workers revolves around the world and must learn to adapt to it, just as every industry before it it has had to.

Anyone who thinks our primarily met coal mines are influenced adversely by Obama cracking down on coal-fired electricity generators is completely missing the point. I can understand the thick seam, Western miners of steam coal being upset, but we don't have a homogenious industry, it's very easily split between steam and met coal. Our local industry, the met coal industry, are actually helping our unfavorable balance of trade, and nothing President Obama is doing or supporting is going to hurt us (unless a company is dumb enough to wait until the last minute to get a permit). In fact, he may actually be helping us, with the restrictions on marginal coal that could go either to met or steam, the price of the true met coal most of us mine goes up.

Wake up, folks, you're fighting someone else's battle, and they are not your brother even if they belong to the same union. Rich Trumpka put an end to that notion. Ask yourself this - why would a major coal company hire a summer worker from law school so he had a right to join the UMWA? If that doesn't sound suspicious to you, you're asleep.
