This shows that the first responders can do a great job without additional funds, but it also show the teachers did a lousy job with this kid. Time for the BOS to make deep and sweeping cuts to the overspending schools until this type of thing stops!
Since when did it become a school teachers job to teach right from wrong etc. I believe that falls under parenting, not teaching school. Do you think school teachers should go door to door every night to make sure children don't argue with their siblings at home, eat their vegetables, do their homework and put them to bed? I hope you don't have children, if you do, they must be raising themselves......oh wait, no you think that's a school teachers job!

Those two shouldn't even be cops, One of then has been fired from two departments and the other had to leave a previous department for lieing.....My God! The Lake department should be disbanded and the lake should pay the Sheriff's Office for 3 depity positions.

I listened to most of this on the scanner. The Lake Monticello Police Department did an excellent job in initially dealing with a potentially tragic situation, and evidenced great courage and professionalism in preventing any injuries or deaths.

As to providing beer - when you are dealing with an already intoxicated person that is sobering up and making demands, a beer or two defuses the situation nicely!

And finally, as the the comment about "snobville" - his family were residents - no wonder he was able to get past the gate. We aren't all snobs, just folks who like living here! There a nice homes here, and not too expensive unless you are waterfront. Check us out sometime, before you malign the whole community!

I take it you didn't do too well in high school English? It greatly weakens your argument when you can't even write a simple declarative sentence!
Perhaps a remedial English course could help you get further in life. <grin>

Despite your difficulties with the English language......Alcohol, in this case, was absolutely warranted. A alcoholic coming down from a high, if you will, can go into DTs., Which is short for Delerium Tremens. It is a medical condition, that is helped other ways in the actual hospital. But in this type of situation, with the police having no way of knowing where he was on that withdrawal scale, a beer was fine. This is not to say that this would work for every situation, but research it before you judge it. As we should with everything.

Do not be overly concerned. Holier-than-thou comments are usually from those that aren`t, and sometimes from those with a low station, or other situation in life, which prompts attacks on those deemed in a worse situation. Not an inviolable rule but a consideration.
Well if there is so much more to the story then take the time to fill us all in. Give us the information that negates the physical violence and the standoff at the lake. I'm sure we will all understand that there was no wrong done after we hear all of the facts.

Everyone should be aware of domestic abuse and the dangers of it. At the same time, it is still a family affair. I'm not sure it's any of our business. I hope everyone figures it out, and the result is a positive one in the long run.

I try to think most anything is repairable , at least to a level of civil function.

But I agree with you .. There are just some levels of violence , some levels of evil..there is no cure.

It has been my observation , watch how a man treat an animal or a child , if ever he strikes either in ANGER.

Thats what you GOT LADIES , you keep pretending he will change .

The day you harm an helpless animal or strike a child in anger ...

GOD help anybody the POS doesn't say he likes or loves.

You get trapped in a bedroom with one with em... don;t say you werent warned.

Keep telling yourself oh well he has only done it a couple time ( HE LOVES ME)

wait till he dont anymore , it might be to late make a better choice.

I agree that it is good that this ended without anyone else (besides the 24-year-old woman) getting physically hurt. But, I know that Kardos family, our kids went to school together, and it is unnecessary, unkind, and untrue to refer to James as "idiot loser white trash." There is more than enough emotional hurt from this to last a lifetime, and misguided vitriol only makes it worse. And again, I agree with you that first responders seem to have done a great job, but there is so much more to the story than that.

My head is spinning from reading all the STUPID comments in this thread, and I feel compelled to comment although it's pointless to argue with stupid:

Teachers do not raise children; they TEACH them. Academics, not morality. They are blameless in this situation. Period. End of story.

In addition, for those who want to blame Fluvanna, Mr. Kardos did not attend Fluvanna County Schools.

To the person who is so concerned about Mr. Kardos' family and the bad publicity they're receiving, I'm sure they REALLY appreciate you stating their names for all to read.

I could pick apart many more, but I won't because I have better things to do.

Beer may have defused this situation this time..

But just picture this... James set off a loaded firearm at his grandmothers house putting holes in the basement door..years ago. Now look at his record most offenses are alcohol related. Last night he set off one shot in his families house...now the police got lucky he didn't shoot himself or at them. They fueled the situation wasting more time by listening to the demands of an alcoholic. He obviously has never complied with the law and never will as long as he drinks. Domestic disputes do occur when you have a ticking time bomb... praying he gets what he deserves and that his child may never deal with such ordeals.(Alcoholism is genetic)
