Anyone ever notice how many no life teens write stupid stiff like this on the internet every day? Between the trolls and the little kids who aspire to be the trolls of the future, the internet is like a sewage treatment plant. It is where all the shit comes together.

I have to disagree ... my 17 year old holds two jobs, goes to school full time, is about to get his eagle scout badge in Boy Scouts and will be going off to college this fall; and yes, I am a very proud Mom! There are still some good teens out there -- we have to look, and we have to be willing to put in the time and effort to let them know we care!

I can't believe how stupid the average teenager is today. If you can find one that can construct a complete sentence, you have an Einstein on your hands. Apparently, area public high schools are little more than daycare centers. The simplest concepts seem to baffle them. For instance, if you and your girlfriend are recent high school grads working for $6.50 at Wal-Mart in York County, Newport News or Hampton, do you:
A. Save for college in order to improve your future.
B. Blow all your money on weed, PS2 games, and accessories for your Neon and then knock up your girlfriend and live off welfare.
If you answered B, then you are or were probably the valedictorian of your class. Congrats, jackasses

We were all teens once but to say that they have more pressure on them makes me laugh. When I was teen, gangster rap was in, kids brought guns to school everyday undetected, and if you wore anything other than name brand items, you were teased mercilessly. Some things haven't changed, but if you consider that schools are much safer places now than 20 years ago. You can easily rat someone out without fear of retaliation because you know law enforcement is going to be involved. You can't even get in a fist fight without being taken away in handcuffs.
The main problem with teens today is that they are so socially retarded, it's not even funny. They can't form friendships easily and don't know how to interact with one another unless there is a keypad involved. Teens today aren't educated and have come to expect a high paying job without working toward it.
The great thing about this is that I have more job security than ever. Today's 20 something college grad can't stay employed because of this. I'm just worried about what will happen when these retards work their way toward Washington D.C., although it couldn't be any worse than what we've have for the past two decades.
Thank you! A few days ago a teen tried to tell me about living in "the real world" and I almost laughed in her face. Told her she had to live in the real world before she starts giving advice about it. Todays teens are arrogant, spoiled, stubborn and disrespectful especially to authority and to other adults.

Hold on a second, because all those remarks you made are personal judments not facts and there's a big difference.
Now here's a question: how would you RATHER teenagers act? And, no offense, if you set an example by laughing at teenage girls and labeling them with negative stereotypes then I don't see how you're helping fix the problem.
I'm guessing you're from USA (cos it's a US forum I'm not saying Im sherlock holmes or anything) and did you know that "arrogant, spoiled, stubborn and disrespectful" is a statement at least 70 -80%(if not more!) of people around the world would make in regard to America/ US Govt.?
I mean no disrespect to you sir, but be aware that your bashing your own society when you say its teenagers are stupid, even though they may well be poorly educated. Like, if I make dinner and it tastes crap, do I blame the food or my ability to cook?

Please don't objectify young women and refrain from joining in bigotry unless you really know what you're talking about. Because guess what? Every female you know will either become or was already age 13-19. And hate to tell you, but you can't hate more than half of the worldwide population.

[Uncle Floyd] "I can't believe how stupid the average... "

To everyone who helped reinforce the media’s misconstrued idea of a stereotypical teenager-
Would everyone please grow up and stop generalizing? This is nothing but a vulgar display of ignorance on your part. I intend on defending a somewhat large percentage (everyone from ages 13 to 19) because technically, they all fall into the category of teenager.
First off, education: Newsflash, not everyone attends public school and not all public schools are bad. Moreover, there are private schools that are far worse than any public school out there.
Second, I’m fairly sure there are plenty of adults out there that spend their money on useless, materialistic items just as much if not more than a selfish teenager. But the average teenager is not necessarily greedy or egotistical.
As for our values, let me assure you our values are just fine. We value the respect for humanity which you clearly do not. To contradict many of the comments on this blog, not every teenager enjoys watching degrading, money-driven shows such as “16 and Pregnant”. Consequently, not everyone sleeps around, gets girls pregnant, etc.
And um, hello? If these girls are even watching crap MTV, then obviously they’re going to not care about domestic violence. Ask the rest of the population and maybe you’d get a different answer.
Also if the adults of your generation stopped putting such a focus on body image, maybe young women would have a better outlook and learn to respect themselves and their body more.
For a group who thinks that men should respect women, you sure are quick to judge the teenage girl’s IQ. Teenage females are no stupider than teenage males, and vice-versa. It is all on a personal level that you can make these judgments. But you can’t just declare that all females are stupid, shallow, and self-absorbed.
While on the topic of the assumed stupidity of a generation, why don’t we turn the spotlight onto your generation for a moment? What generation, you ask? Oh, right. The parent generation. Where exactly do you think teens get their “twisted” ideals from? Children of all ages are continually being shaped by their home life. At the same time, not all parents are perverts and whores. Please refrain from using absolutes here. My father, a strong Catholic figure in my life, would never touch porn. My mother is the epitome of hard working, gentle, and loving. Do not insult those who don’t deserve your bigotry.
By the way, do you have children? Because if you do, are you suddenly going to hate them when they turn 13? Do you have any memory of being a teenager yourself? Because as someone mentioned, there was plenty of peer pressure. If you walk in with a shirt not from Abercrombie or some other overpriced store with labels, then you STILL get beaten up, just maybe not physically. Are you telling me that the mental and emotional stability of today’s teenagers means nothing to you? In certain areas, the violence is no better than when all of you were teenagers. I agree that some people need to become more responsible. But that applies to not only children who need to act like young adults, but also adults who insist on acting like children, or irresponsible teenagers.
The apparent prejudices you hold against the people that will become your future is incredibly insulting. Despite your dislike of approximately 16% of the world, I still believe that not only teenagers, but every person has the ability to become well-grounded, intelligent, kind, open-minded and at peace with themselves. It's all about the influences that shape them. And just for the record, unless I’m gravely mistaken, I believe can formulate a complete sentence without any help, thank you very much.

It angers me that the majority of adults have this mentality towards us. I'm a teenager, raised in a good household, and I met a good mount of discipline brought on by my father. I turned out well, you could say, as a result of good parenting. I live alone with my brother for the majority of the day, cook for myself, and do the majority of the chores. If you parents actually had some balls to make your kids scared of you, maybe they wouldn't do whatever the hell they wanted. Sure, I still do talk with some bad manners every once in a while. But I'm still growing up, man.

I workout in a gym called 'KRONX'. The teen wannabees who just beat up a 75 lb 6th grader come to the gym and get KOed, and this is just in sparring with all the equipment on. I have my own shower in the club. The teens don't even take baths like most teens dont. They smell like a trash can without a lid. I feel for the teachers who can beat these punks up but have to take their tough squeaky talk or get fired. Personally, I could never be in a school. I would shatter one's jaw before lunch.

Please, take the weed out of the equation. I would MUCH rather have a teen smoking weed than drinking under age. The death rate from weed, even from driving stoned, is much less than from alcohol.

Well I guess that's one way to raise a child, out of fear, but you know the best citizens are raised in a compassionate family.

I have to say it's the fault of the parents and our trashy American culture. As I read through these posts, I don't think I've seen one individual outside of the US complaining! Not saying that everyone else in the world has the answer, but just take a look around you today...if you're American. The entitlement mentality, reality TV shows, music videos that degrade women, fast food, over-reliance on instant gratification, laziness, the desire to be popular, promiscuity, conformity, lack of respect for elders, group think, self hate because we're overly image concious eschewing academics, the list goes on and on.

I am married with 3 kids of my own. My wife has a daughter from a previous relationship that PREVIOUSLY lived with us, but I had to banish her because of endless episodes; one day, she completely destroyed her bedroom. My own children looked at her like she was crazy whenever she was around and my youngest daughter, ONLY TWO but very bright, didn't want anything to do with her. This child came from a home where independence was discouraged, she got whatever she wanted without having to work for it, and she had no chores. She is now living with those same grandparents that enabled her and it is a tragedy. I will not allow anyone to disrupt or disrespect the household and my own children know what is expected of them.

I agree, most teens act like idiots, but I can guarantee you that it is the fault of the people behind the scenes that enable their behavior or don't even know how to IDENTIFY the issue before it's too late. I still struggle to "coach" my wife about these issues and it's a miracle that I'm still with her. She just did not get it for the longest time.

I've met SOME extremely bright and intelligent teenagers over the years who have made me look at my own teenager years with remorse, though I wasn't as bad as most others at the time.

The majority of the ones I encounter today, including college students in young adulthood have this arrogant air of entitlement about them. Not all of them, mind you... but most of the ones I've experienced.

I don't generalize or form an opinion of a teenager or young adult until I've interacted with them.

That all being said, a majority of adults that I deal with on a daily basis have the same air about them.

Teenagers eventually grow into young adults, then adults. Many of them will mature into great adults, some of them will not change and the remainder will degrade into immature adults.

They're still young with many experiences ahead of them that will help to mold them in the coming years. They will eventually figure out who they are.

Until then, it takes responsible and patient adults to provide guidance while encouraging them to explore their independence. They're no longer children, so don't treat them as such. They're not yet adults, so don't demand too much of them.
