Massey should sue the protesters, the Coal Mountain Watch, and any local individuals involved in the protest that recently sent one employee to the hospital. The down time on the Dragline of least 4 hours, the lost time of the man hours they still had to pay the employees, the dollar amount of the lost production costs for more than 4 hours and the additional time because of the upset of the workers for the entire shift, and for the hospital expenses for the employees - Massey will pay for that regardless if it's a Comp case or turned in on insurance; these costs alone should bankrupt the group. MSHA should have cited the protesters with individual fines for not having on steel toes, no hardhats, no task training, and no surface cards. The protesters put the employee and many other employees in danger as well as the police, the MSHA inspectors present but most of all themselves in extreme danger. A dragline is a mammoth piece of equipment that inexperienced people have no business being around and especially climbing on it.

You should be ashamed of yourself for what you insinuate in this post. Don's private life has nothing to do with the stupidity of the treehuggers that continually trespass on mining property.

Are seriously that ignorant? My insinuation is that the blinded sheep jump on his johnson and slobber. He has no need to wash that junk, you mute sheep keep it clean for him. You would drown your children and shoot your mother if old sly Don held a job site meeting gave the directive. Again, MTR puts two out three Miners OUT OF A JOB!

there are also local people who have had to leave their homes because of nearby mining

and there are still some local people left who are against the mining

90% of the wealth made from coal mining leaves WV. When the UMW was strong much more stayed.

Great idea - stop Massey & kick them back to VA -
and keep them there. We don't need Massey and any stinking coal revenue or their crappy jobs! LOL

People - just a partial listing of operations in WV:

The Marfork complex includes seven underground room and pillar mines and a preparation plant.

The Rawl complex includes two underground room and pillar mines and a preparation plant.

The Elk Run complex produces coal from four underground room and pillar mines and the Logans Fork longwall.

The Green Valley complex includes two underground room and pillar mines and a preparation plant.

The Guyandotte complex, formerly known as Kepler, includes one underground room and pillar mine.

The Elk Run complex produces coal from four underground room and pillar mines and the Logans Fork longwall.

The Independence complex includes the Revolution longwall mine, two underground room and pillar mines and a preparation plant that also processes a portion of the coal from the Black Castle and Endurance Resource Groups

The Logan County complex includes four surface mines, one highwall miner and two underground room and pillar mines, plus the Bandmill preparation plant and the Feats loadout.

The Mammoth complex operates three underground room and pillar mines and a preparation plant.

The Marfork complex includes seven underground room and pillar mines and a preparation plant.

Yeah Massey leaves some crumbs behind for poor people to fight over.

But look at what else they leave behind: massive environmental degredation from strip-mining and massive poverty from busting the UMW.

Crumbs? The list looks like a full loaf.

Wonder who's the largest coal employer in WV? or the Appalachian region?

Wonder who produces the most coal in WV? or the Appalachian region?(just asking - cause I don't know)

The Twilight mine in Boone was knocking down huge numbers, leading the state 24 months ago. People, people. The coal is fixed, stationary, as I have said its not a factory or a mill, it cannot be carted off to Mexico or China. Massey, Consol, Arch, they HAVE to fulfill contracts with thier clients. Massey was sued in 05 for just that, 276 million awarded to Wheeling steel for failure to supply. MTR puts 66% of career Miners out of work. Which side our you on??

I'm thankful to the good Lord, that I don't have to lower myself, to the sorry point of employment with massey energy. Old sly Don proves P.T.Barnums theory was actually fact.

His mouth might be dirty.

But it is a whole lot cleaner than mountaintop removal workers (not miners) leave West Virginia.

Massey is the reason alot of people are on welfare. Busting the union eliminated thousands of jobs.

But i'm certainly not on welfare. And I certainly hate Massey.
