The first T party demonstration in this area was the same month the President took office. My daughters and I were shopping at a local mall and the traffic was all backed up. The signs they were holding and flashing at passing traffic had to do with TARP, which was the Shrub's program. Many seemed to think it was un-Constitutional.<quoted text>Your predictions or pessimistic outlook mirror what we've been hearing on Fox News and the right-wing Media since Obama's election. The problem is that those predictions never come to fruition (Unemployment never hit double-digit and Romney did not win). To me, they sound more like fear or hysteria than anything else.
_We all know that during economic downturns there is always confusion and unrest (Greece, Brasil and the Middle East are good examples). The T-party insurrection, however, was not a spontaneous movement. During hard times, we'd expect to see poor folks who had lost their jobs and homes on the street, not well-to-do folks. Right-wing Media, in response to Obama's victory, meant to incite White Americans against the president with not so subtle bigoted and crude accusations like: Obama hates white people... He had a plan to pay reparation to Blacks for slavery... Joe The Plumber (he'll be spreading the wealth)... Rejection of his birth place (A Black man with no criminal records must be an alien)... Rejection of his Christian faith, making him a Muslim even though Reverend Wright's church was of Christian faith ... In other words, a great many people who did not approve of a Black president came out as T-partiers who wanted to claim their country back from the Negro... Trust me, a blind man can see what's been going on: Sabotage of the first Negro president by powerful supremacists, planned on inauguration day, in 2009, according to Newt Gingrich....
_ Sabotage and Embargo are powerful weapons; both deployed against the Obama Administration... He'd fail long time ago if God was not with him... You just watch! His enemies are falling one by one and we'll be just fine....
The next one was in March and was quite a bit larger than the first. They were protesting TARP, pending cash for clunkers and taxpayer funded mortgage bailouts. The local paper had some pics and an article.
Birthers predate the Presidents election. Excerpts from Obama's own books helped to fuel that, even though they were often quoted out of context.
So did Joe the Plumber, to whom Obama did make a comment about "spreading the wealth" long before the primaries.
The flap about Reverend Wright and the church where he preaches started in July, 2008 and before the primaries, when his "God damned America" sermon went public, along with some equally vile clips.
Tying these things and more to the T party is projection and not based in fact. Making all the opponents of the President out to be racially motivated is also projection and not based in fact.
We have a two party system in this country. Look back at the Shrub's eight long years in office, and all the things that were said, written and reported about him. Look at some of the protests, the posters of him as Hitler in an SS hat, or being hung in effigy, or cartoons where he was caricatured as a monkey.
We were amused, or we snickered, but suddenly it's not so funny when our party is in office.
I don't watch FOX and don't know what they're saying. But I read articles on Reuters daily from a variety of sources. My pessimism is based on that and on the exit polling from this past Tuesdays elections across the country. Facts, not political hyperbole, and the facts aren't anything to be optimistic about.
