I live in Utah and have never seen a polygamist. Where are they? As a former lawman, I would like to report them to the proper authorities. Let me know!

Give me a break. The bigger issue is why doesn't Utah ACTIVELY prosecute polygamy. The answer is, most main stream mormons are sympathetic toward polygamy. And since most Utah State authorities are mormon...

Are you kidding me? Mormons don't practice polygamy. They used to back in like the 1800's but now they don't. There was a breakoff from the mormon church that has hardly any members that still practice it. But the mormons dont. so STFU nOOb.

I wish I WERE MAN ENOUGH TO PUT UP WITH MORE THAN ONE WIFE. ANYONE WHO TELLS ME THAT THEY ARE, IS EITHER CRAZY OR HIGH ON DOPE OR BOTH. WOMEN ARE CRAZY AND ONE IS ENOUGH. I THINK MORMONS ARE SMARTER THAN THAT. AFTER ALL, THEY SPLIT THE ATOM AND SOLVED THE COLD FUSION MYSTERY RIGHT?

Actually, most of us aren't. Polygamy is not accepted as appropriate. It is wrong and we do not condone the behavior at all. Lawman wrote: <quoted text> Where are they? Give me a break. This is all ridiculous if everything that is supposedly true about mormons was true I would have faith in nothing. It seems pathetic that people just make up stuff. Mormons dont believe in polygamy...not everything you hear is true.

There is polygamy in every state in the Union. Utah is the only state that does go after polygamists. Get real people. What is the difference from a polygamist and anyone who lives outside of the bonds of marriage. The only time society should be concerned with polygamy is when it involves underage children.

In 1842 Mormon Church president and founder Joseph Smith revealed the doctrine of "Celestial Marriage" (polygamy) to followers as the only way to attain the "fullness of exaltation." The full revelation was recorded in their Doctrine and Covenants; section 132, making it "scripture" to Mormon faithful.
Members of the Mormon Church continued the practice of polygamy after establishing themselves in the Utah Territory, keeping Utah from statehood for more than 30 years. In 1882, Congress passed the Edmunds Tucker Act, resulting in a major crusade against polygamists in the form of raids and arrests.
In 1885, George Q. Cannon, counsellor of the Mormon First Presidency, proclaimed, "To comply with the request of our enemies, would be to give up all hope of ever entering into the glory of God, the Father, and Jesus Christ, the son. So intently interwoven is this precious doctrine with the exaltation of men and women in the great hereafter that it cannot be given up without giving up at the same time all hope of immortal glory."
In 1888, Mormon Church President Wilford Woodruff stated: "We won't quit practising plural marriage until Christ shall come." But in 1890, Woodruff issued a proclamation and signed "The Manifesto," pledging to Congress that Mormons had given up polygamy, thus paving the way for statehood.
Given up? Perhaps "shelved" to be politically correct would be a better way of saying it.
Strange as it may seem, however, Joseph Smith's revelation regarding the importance of practicing polygamy still remains in the Doctrine and Covenants--one of the four standard works of the Mormon Church. Look it up yourselves...or should I do it for you.

Too much generalization and not enough valid information... Even the title of this forum is ignorant. Get the facts straight, and then comment.

In my neighborhood in east of Salt Lake City all but a few of us were polygamists. They were good neighbors, but don't fool yourself into thinking it's some sort of secret. Nobody cares, including law enforcement. I find it amazing that once it became clear that Utah had no possibility of enjoying the benefits of statehood Heavenly Father sends a prophecy to earth telling everyone to knock it off. How can God have any pride in what he previously stated as law when he can be so easily manipulated by an act of congress? The Book Of Mormon clearly states to go out there and get as many wives as you can afford. Then congress comes along and embarrasses God. Shame on congress! Bad Congress! Or was it (gulp) LDS doctrine be damned, let’s join that USA and we won’t have to fund our own government, support our own army and coin our own money?

I grew up in Orem and never new a polygimist but now I live in the Saint George area and they are every where. My point though is they are not Mormons since the LDS Church has banned polygamy and any member who would try to practice it would be ex communicated. Since the LDS church teaches "obey all the laws of the land" it does not seem inapropriate to me that they ban polygamy since it was outlawed in the eighteen hundreds! Let me also make it clear I honor and respect my Wife.

[you know what damn that abraham for hitting it with hagaar and take himself extra wives, and david who's lineage christ came through having all them wives. jacob who married two sisters and god for allowing it so that the twelve tribes who sold their brother and lied about it who's supposed lineage we came through could save their selves from their father jacob who had many wives. I mean how dumb is that Joseph Smith to institute the practice of polyigamy after first translating in the book of mormon in Jacob, which chronologicaly came first, that plural marriage was an abomination to the lord. Obviously he knew about the practice and I am gauranteeing knew more about judaism and the bible than you do. It was instituted by the lord and perverted by the people. It wasn't about lustful desires and shouldn't have been did you see some of the women come on. Joseph was a smart man and wouldn't be that stupid to institute something he just had revelation about and wrote about years before unless instructed by a higher power

The topic is "Utah's Open Little Secret". I still content, most people in Utah know of polygamy if not know a polygamist. Since it's against current State law, it should be prosecuted completely and fully. No more "wink and nod" while turning the other cheek until another little slave girl is raped by her uncle. No more "let's not rock the boat" by authorities. Hypocrits!

Part of the joy of being LDS is having a "Living Prophet" who not only interprets scripture, but from time to time receives direct revelation from our Father God. As a prophet, his words may interpret or supercede previous revelations from earlier prophets. Therefore, the historic written text of scripture may not always be the current understanding our view of todays LDS. Being "mormon" means living a life of obedience to God's living prophet's. It's a wonderful release when you realize that each of us (through faith, service and obedience) can share in the fully restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I am proud of my mormon heritage and look forward to my calling into the celestial kingdom for ever and ever!

Yeah, it's funny how all of you people who supposedly know so much about Mormons and polygamy in Utah don't even live in Utah. You probably aren't Mormons and don't even know any Mormons. Half of you self-proclaimed "experts" can't even spell correctly. You know, I have thought about this before: why do people attack Mormons but not catholics, Baptists, Methodists, etc.? Then it hit me! Why would Satan/the devil persecute the churches that were teaching his (the devil's) teachings? HE WOULDN'T ! He already has them in his pocket. So if Satan is the enemy to God's truth and righteousness then he, logically, would persecute the churches teaching the true teachings of Jesus Christ. I'm man enough to find out for myself. Now that I see how ignorant you opponents to Mormonism are, I am going to invite some Mormon Missionaries over to my home today and find out for myself.

Oh by the way, LAWMAN , I believe you are probably just a security guard. What laws are you enforcing? When I was a REAL Police Officer, I was fighting crime, training, testifying in court, and working extra jobs in order to make ends meet, not typing in posts on topix net. I didn't have time for it.That's why I believe that you are a wanna-be Police Officer/lawman. Don't even respond because I have already called you out! Now go and post your posts about Catholic Priests molesting little boys on a daily basis and no one is doing anything about it. That is fact, not fantasy.
