I would not want an ugly fence accross my property any more that these people do. But, what is at stake here is not the "ugliness" of a fence. It is a test of the right of the federal government to protect the nation. These "border playing" local politicians refuse to enforce immigration law or to assist the federal government in it's enforcement so they have given the government no other alternative. Because they have allowed their cities to become staging areas for illegal aliens who move on to other areas of the country they have forced this action. They should understand that the rest of the nation demands a solution. I wonder how many mayors accross the nation would agree with them. I believe that only a few agree with what they are doing. This a liberal test to set legal precedent.

In total agreement with "Another John" and adding, those border "mayors" need to be held personally accountable for the crime and mayhem resulting in their interference with the fence construction. Where do you think they get the money to "lobby" against the protection of our borders? Nothing more than the mouthpiece of smuggling organizations, their rhetoric is exactly what the smugglers want. Enough is enough, get the fence up and manned, lets shut down these corridors of hell.

I totally agree and stand right by my mayor,Richard Cortez, and I believe that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has come into ranches of private landowners which defies the homestead act.

Then give us a better solution to the illegal migration accross the Mexican border. If you police this locally there will be no need for federal intervention.

The border of Mexico is big business for border towns. These towns have every incentive for open borders. These towns WILL NEVER enforce immigration laws. That is why America needs the fence.

Well, why does citizenship have to be so long, complicated, and expensive.People in devoloping nations can't afford to pay for citizenship which in fact costs more than 1000 dollars. That is just an insane number to me.

You have to understand that Mexico, Central America, and South America are not the only places from which people want to immigrate. Also, do you expect the U.S. taxpayer to foot the bill for the immigration process? And the out of pocket cost to an immigrant is not taken in full at the time of entry. As far as what goes on along the Mexican border, I lived in South Texas for a while and leased hunting property there for several years after that. I know exactly what takes place in regards to illegal aliens. Most of the people who claim to fight for the migrants, whom they refer to as "undocumented immigrants," are the very people who use and abuse them. First, the migrants are not "undocumented immigrants" they are illegal aliens. And most of the people helping them are nothing more than "border players" who have made a career out of gleening money from them and/or their plight. They are the biggest crooks of all. These mayors are protecting only their own political careers and helping the "border playing" machine that they are a part of. I understand the family ties that have grown while the enforcement of immigration law was lax, but when you become too comfortable with illegal activity you stand to be hurt.

All I'm saying is that this wall is a mockery to democracy(in my opinion). We should try to solve this other than democracy, like a Marshall Plan.
