Prescription skin cancer cream Aldara has horrific side effects, say users

Elaine Hollingsworth put Aldara on her nose thinking that it was the "benign salve" that her dermatologist made it out to be; instead, it was the beginning of her nightmare. Full Story

Although it may have few side effects for some, my forehead over my right eye looks like a truck ran it over. My entire face became swollen, my right sided lymph nodes, my eye lid swelled closed, and now I am just a bright red beefy mess.

Were you applying the cream to your whole face or just a small area?

Wow, so many new people who might possibly become the new wave of victims.
Too, too wrong.

I am fighting Septicaemia for the third time this year atm. Feels pretty awful. My Porta Cath is also infected this time. So I have lost my IV central line for some time.
Looks like it is back to hospital.
That is an unpleasant thing on it's own.
Dr's cant figure out why my immune system no longer exists......and they can get very nasty when they are stumped...not much fun to be on the end of some of these ugly creatures in AEC. They don't want to even think that a pharmaceutical company is directly responsible for my life threatening symptoms.
They wont step out of the box and fight against the corporate greed of these companies.
3m is responsible.

I used Aldara 11 years ago. I have lived for 11 years in complete torture. There isn't a day that has passed in this time, when I have had my 'pre Aldara' health.
Pain, nausea, vomiting. Problems with all foods.
Autoimmune illness's that are just ridiculous.
I live in hell.
If you want to chance it...go ahead.
I wish I had the choice 11 years ago, to not use this poison. But I didn't, and that is the fault of 3m. Greedy, liars and cheats.

They have cheated me out of my life, my family, and everything that was important to me.
Do you feel lucky? I wasn't. And I am reminded of this every second of every day.

I hope you make the right choice for yourself....it is a long time living in excruciating pain, on a lounge.
Think about it...would you last 11 years in 10/10 pain without a break?
It is tough...I can assure you of that.
Do I get treatment for the latest bout of Septicaemia? Or do I let it take me away from the misery?
And I am not depressed....just weighing up the options for myself, but also for my family. We have all suffered. I am the only one who can decide this.......and I love life? But at what cost?

You have the choice......read this and then decide how you want your future to be?
Love to all

Hello all, I have followed these posts for many years and have posted my demise caused by Aldara, however now I have more concerns and hope someone on this site can answer, prior to Aldara I have had no eye problems, in last 12 months I have had 4 eye surgeries and now a 5th in a few days, unexpected floaters and blurriness, this was all sudden, also for 12 months now I have suffered constant swollen legs and the pain is very bad, I am getting to the stage some days it is hard to walk at all, not 1 Dr or specialist can pinpoint the cause, is this all Aldara, I suspect yes but would like some confirmation. By the way hello Richard and Mandy, I can be reached at auzzie@xnet.co.nz
Thanks Auzzie. I have just dropped an update. I am having terrible problems with specific pain in one foot atm. swollen , painful, cant weight bear. There is always a new 'thing' to have to deal with....ha, ha, ha!!
Hope you feel better. I am at those crossroads again. Not wanting to endure the abuse of hospital Dr's, but would love to have some more time. I think God might have to decide this one...I am over fighting to survive this terrible poison. The problem is, when we are gone...then who will tell our stories? So many people on this site, no idea the damage they are doing to their bodies. They have no idea of the hell they are dropping themselves into...it breaks my heart. Truly breaks my heart. While 3m gets away with murder. So wrong. So wrong.
Lots of love, Mandi

Just to add to the updates.
We have managed from home, to treat the Septicaemia. The central line had to come out due to infection, so this has led into clots in my lower leg.

At the end of the day, I am grateful that I haven't gone into hospital. I am happy to accept the consequences of this decision, but so far, I am doing much better than I would be, if I was in the hands of hospital Dr's.
The abuse is just too much.
The ignorance is impossible to change.
Hope everyone has a happy and loving Christmas.

I am supposed to start Aldara tonight and I'm hesitant for a million reasons. Reason one million and one is the area I'm supposed to treat has opened up and started to bleed. This area had an infection for over a year and I know it will not heal. The cancer needs to be stopped but I'm wishing there was an alternative treatment. I've done everything else and the cancer keeps reoccuring. I need to suck it up and just do it. UGH

Look, I don't know how to tell you anyway but just straight up, READ YOUR PRODUCT INFORMATION SHEET THAT CAME WITH YOUR ALDARA. It plainly states, what your doctor is supposed to be telling you IF HE/SHE HAD ONLY READ IT THEMSELVES WHICH THEY HAVE NOT, that you are NOT, NOT, NOT, supposed to apply Aldara into a lesional, open wound, P E R I O D !!!!! It is supposed to heal up completely before applying the drug or else you highly risk having the Aldara absorb into your bloodstream in sufficient amounts to do you extensive permanent harm. This has been proven time and again both in lab settings, hospitals, and by 3M itself. Why do you think the warnings of this is in the product sheet? And why are we having to discuss this when it is in the product sheet, and YOUR DAMN DOCTOR'S DESKKTOP REFERENCE BOOK THE PDR? Because no one is reading the literature. No one cares enough to understand that what they are hearing and reading on this forum is true and accurately happening to these people, BUT NO IT WON'T HAPPEN TO YOU, right? I am not going to advise you one way or the other but I will tell you I nearly died in the hospital from applying Aldara in a facial area lesion that developed into an open wound while using Aldara. That was in 2000, I have had for years, Parkinson's, IBS, Celiac, sjogrens, peripheral neuropathy, fibromyalgia, and other autoimmune conditions all of which date back to when I was on Aldara. Life for me is what I make of it each day which "ain't pretty". So, there you are. You can put the stuff in your open wound if you want but just know that you are going against all warnings from the manufacturer, to me, to everyone with similar outcomes on this forum, the FDA, everyone EXCEPT YOU DAMN DOCTOR who needs to take 15-minutes out of his/her schedule and read the damn literature then he/she, too, can warn you and help you make the decision. Now, I will tell you that there is no one treatment for cancer. Many treatments exist. Often times dermatologist take the high road and "cherry pick" their clients conditions they chose to get involved with at the surgical level. If it is going to be too time consuming for the money they will receive, some doctors will fore go surgical means for erradicating your cancer and offer you CREAMS that may actually make you much worse afterwards. With creams, you never know if the cancer is eradicated because it eventually heals up, and no testing is ever performed to see if in fact "you got it". The skin on top might look perfectly ok and many times does with the select people but what is going on below the surface is nothing less than a gamble. I have had two surgeries on top of the area on my forehead that was eaten to within mm's of my skull by my us of Aldara. Hope this helps you confront your doctor with why he/she does not know the warnings for Aldara prior to prescribing it for your use.

I was advised to put Aldara cream on my sons plantar and normal warts 9 in total and 1 molluscom on his bottom lip. Now completely scared 1.5weeks later he has yellow blisters all over his mouth. Nothing listed about any age on the packet and says to read the consumer medical information which is available from my pharmacist. This was recommended by my family doctor by prescription. I have stopped the cream but am quite scared....what should I do????

if a cream is so therapeutic, Les...why do you feel so unwell? Systemically unwell?
Pharmaceutical companies are big business. They don't care about the results...they care about the money..3M Grace Pharma.....would be well aware about this site. Have they ever bothered to contact any of the Aldara victims? Do
you honestly think they care? I am sure over the last 8 years or so that I have been posting on this site...to try to warn people of the devastation of using Aldara ......many posts have read very much as if they have come from some sort of Pharmaceutical employee. Sandy many years ago was so aggressive towards Aldara victims who posted here. They know and they don't care.

Why would anyone consider that this was a positive treatment for BCCs and warts?
You life depends on your decision and who you think you should believe. You are welcome to come and spend a few hours with me, and see if you want the life that I am living....for the last 11 years. Talk to my family and see what their life is now like? Feel free to investigate this option.
This is the only reason I write on this sight...to stop the carnage that 3M has started.
Happy New Year.......for some.

2nd treatment with Aldara: Now I put more less cream on than on the 1st evening. I thought I put too much for 1st time. SO now I covered only the warts and put only a small amount on them, and not rubbing them. I felt next day - today - absolutely nothing. No headache, no sickness, nothing. I think I put too much cream on first time. Anyway - there is no changes on the warts at all :) so lets see the 3rd tomorrow evening.

Hello. I never sick. Had no problem in my life at all, flue only 1 time in 2 years max.
Anyway. I applied 3rd time the Aldara on Wednesday. After I did not apply on Thursday and Friday as it has to be done like that. So from Saturday again...BUT!!!!
Saturday afternoon around 2pm a headache just started. During visiting country side on fresh air with my little son. In half an hour the headache turned to be extremely strong all over my head. A few minutes later my stomach started to hurt, and felt dizzy, sick. My headache turned to be that strong I nearly cried, could scream and shout at the same time. I NEVER FELT LIKE THIS IN MY LIFE EVER! The headache, sickness, vomiting feeling turned to be horrific. I have tried to drive home (40mins) before evening to take my little boy home. On the way I drove very slowly with opened windows. I was very sick, dizzy, and the headache is unwritable.
I WAS BITING MY FINGERS TO FEEL OTHER PAIN TO SURVIVE THE TRIP HOME. I stopped 2 times. Even stopped, walking, breathing deeply, it was horribel. EXTREMELY HORRIBLE WHAT IS DIFFICULT TO EXPLAIN. If you had terrible pain in your life and sickness, you know how I felt.
We arrived safe home. Freezing...swetting...sore throat feeling..dizzing...sickness... headache.
PLEASE NEVER EVER USE ALDARA!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE IF YOU USE IT JUST STOP IT!!!!

I BELIEVED THIS CREAM EVEN I HAVE READ MANY THINGS HERE. I THOUGHT I JUST PUT TOO MUCH FOR FIRST.
RUBBISH.

THIS IS POISEN. I STOP IT RIGHT NOW AFTER APPLIED 3RD TIME 4 DAYS AGO.

I don't mind my warts anymore. I am sure there is something else for it.

N O A L D A R A!!!!!

if you want to comment saying that was my fault, do not do so.
I am healthy. I done everything well. I applied very carefully.
ITS POISON!!!
Thanks for that. believe me.
i have 9 sachet for sale...:)
NEVER BUY THAT!

Well Les... That is Aldara. A game of Russion roulette.
After 11 years of living in agonizing pain, Aldara is the most insidious drug prescribed.
Good luck. I hope that you won't
Have to endure more side effects in the future. There are many of us who keep in touch via this site. Keep in touch to let us know how you are getting on.

Hi Les
For me I used Aldara twice. I have never been well since.
I have new Autoimmune illness every year. Each year is harder than the previous.
I am alive, but I don't have a life.
On this site I have seen so many people sing the praises of Aldara and then 2-3 years later they post on here their symptoms that have just come into the light and how terribly Ill they now are.
We all write here to try to help people make informed decisions. Good luck
