Jr. High Girls Nude Pics Sent to Cell Phones

Police in the Santa Fe school district have confiscated dozens of phones as they search for nude images of two junior high school girls that were forwarded to numerous students, the district superintendent said Tuesday. The two Santa Fe Junior High School students took nude photos of themselves and sent them to their boyfriends, Superintendent Jon Whittemore said. The boyfriends forwarded the photos to others, who in turn forwarded them again, he said. He said he was uncertain whether the students are in the seventh or eighth grade and exactly when the photos were taken, except that it happened late last week.

Today's tech toys allow kids to do many things that they would not ordinarily do. They act on impulse and do not always consider the consequences of their actions. Their lack of life experience allows them to be "playfully cruel" one moment and despondent about what they have done the next moment. If we do not communicate with our kids and monitor their activities they will be influences by the wrong things.

This is so unfair to all of the teens who use technology appropriately. Like what John says for example " They act on impulse and do not always consider the consequences of their actions." I understand that a couple of people do, and this is what happens. But the majority of us don't, and its stupid to say that every one is like this and its all because of technology. Beth, please don't think that I believe all teens are like that. But, you have to understand that those who lack proper guidance and communication with their parents are more likely to act irresponsibly. I never had this problem with my children and, so far, my grandchildren (ages 7 to 15) are doing just fine.
It is not the fault of the tecnology, but rather the misuse of the technology. Teens who learn about technology early, act responsibly, and get a good education stand the best chance of being our leaders of tomorrow. Our hope is with you.

Let me propose this scenario for you, though. I have no idea how old you are but let's assume for a moment that you're 40 and you have a 13 year old daughter (she's a minor, right?).

Your daughter thinks it would be fun to send your 14 year old neighbor (a boy, a minor) some nude photos of herself.

The boy sends the nude pics to his friends and they send them to theirs and the pics end up on the internet.

Now how do you feel? Is is still ok for teens to share nude photos? The last time I checked, possessing nude pics of minors was a crime.

The larger question is, WHY do teens need to share nude photos? As a prelude to sex?
