"On a per capita basis, Texas ranks 20th despite have abundant sunshine and the lowest installed cost in the nation for solar, hovering around five cents per kilowatt hour."
"Whatís the problem in Texas? Itís state policy. Almost all the solar that has been installed in Texas has been installed by municipal-owned utilities. Big oil has kept private utilities out of the solar generation business by lobbying against a net metering law that would allow residents or businesses to sell the power they generate from solar to the utility. Forty three other states have a net metering law."
The electric Utilities don't want "partners", which is what net metering does for the home owner or business owner that installs solar PV or even solar Hot water on their roofs. If Companies like Tesla are successful at building mega battery plants, then the price of electricity storage goes down to a point, that home owners and business owners can put in their own systems and store their own energy to use at night and cloudy days. NRG energy seems to be the only Utility in the industry that is looking into selling solar PV, with a natural gas backup generator and perhaps some form of battery storage as a system.
