Providing an abortion to an "Aryan" woman is still a capital offense, and is still a crime against humanity.

Then what, exactly, would be the point of making it illegal?

Who wants to make it illegal? Killing unborn babies is meeting with less favorability year by year.

So where's the beef? You should be dancing in the streets! Oh, wait....you meant fewer and fewer people claim to be pro-choice? Because, um, so-called 'pro-life' women are still getting clandestine abortions...and then going right back to the picket lines.

Yeah. I agree with her, too. Women deserve better than shit propaganda, guilting and shaming, hypocrisy, one-night-stands, and patriarchy.

Amen, sister!! Preach it!

It was a slow day
And the sun was beating
On the soldiers by the side of the road
There was a bright light
A shattering of shop windows
The bomb in the baby carriage
Was wired to the radio

These are the days of miracle and wonder
This is the long-distance call
The way the camera follows us in slo-mo
The way we look to us all
The way we look to a distant constellation
Thatís dying in a corner of the sky
These are the days of miracle and wonder
And donít cry baby donít cry
Donít cry

Culturally-diversified biracial girl with

a small diamond nose ring and a pretty smile
poses besides the words
ďWomen Deserve BetterĒ.

and I almost let her non-threatening grin
begin to infiltrate my psyche
until I read the unlikely small print
at the bottom of the ad:
Sponsored by the US Secretariat for Pro-Life Activities
and the Knights of Columbus

On a bus
in a city
with a population of 553,000,
4 teenage mothers on the bus with me,
1 Latina woman with 3 children under 3
and no signs of a daddy.

One sixteen year old black girl
standing in 22-degree weather
with only a sweater
a book bag
and a bassinette,
with an infant that ainít even four weeks yet
tell me that Yes Ö.
Women do deserve better.

Women deserve better
than public transportation rhetoric
from the same people who
wonít give that teenage mother
a ride to the next transit.
Wonít let you talk to their kids about safer sex
Have never had to listen as the door SLAMS
behind the man who adamantly says,
ďThat shitĒ ainít his
leaving her to wonder how sheíll raise this kid.

Women deserve better
than the 300 dollars TANF and AFC
will provide that family of three
or the 6 dollar an hour job at KFC
with no benefits for her new baby
or the college degree she may never see
because you canít have infants at the university

Women deserve better
than lip service paid for by politicians
who have no alternatives to abortion
though I am sure
right this moment one of their seventeen year old daughters
is sitting in a clinic lobby
sobbing quietly and anonymously
praying parents donít find out
or will be waiting for mom to pick her up because research shows
that out-of-wedlock childbirth doesnít look good on political polls and
Daddy ainít having that.

Women deserve better
than backwards governmental policies
that donít want to pay
for welfare for kids
or health care for kids
or child care for kids
Donít want to pay living wages to working mothers,
Donít want to make men who only want to be last nightís lovers
responsible for the semen they lay.

Flat out donít want to pay for SHIT
but want to control the woman whoís having it.
Acting outraged at abortion.
Well Iím outraged
that they want us to believe
that they believe
that women deserve better.

The Vatican wonít prosecute pedophile priests
But I decide Iím not ready for motherhood
and itís condemnation for me
These are the same people who wonít support
national condom distribution to prevent teenage pregnancy.
But women deserve better.

Women deserve better
than back-alley surgeries
that leave our wombs barren and empty.
Deserve better
than organizations bearing the name
of land-stealing racist rapists
funding million dollar campaigns on subway trains
with no money to give these women
while balding middle-aged white men
tell us what to do with our bodies
while they wage wars and kill other peopleís babies

So maybe women deserve better
than propaganda and lies
to get into office
Propaganda and lies
to get into panties
to get out of court
to get out of paying child support

Get the hell out of our decisions
and give us back our voice
Women do deserve better
Women deserve choice

I loved this, Morgana, thanks so much for sharing it. I especially loved the last four lines.

Yes, this is so very true. Women DO deserve choice, and easy access to the means (contraception and abortion) that allow EACH woman to make the decision SHE feels is best for HER.

You should be happy, then. They have both the choice and the easy access.

What easy access?

I would be much happier if steady encroachment upon, and dismantling of, that 'access', wasn't the focus of so many governing and legislative bodies in this country. What happened to 'jobs, jobs, jobs...', Dan?

REALLY. Tell THAT lie to the women living in states where most if not all of the women's clinics who provided abortion, as well as contraception and other services, have been closed due to the TRAP laws in those states. "Easy access?" I think NOT.

There is no "easy access" for women who have no way to get to a women's clinic and who have no health insurance that would allow them to see a doctor for a birth control prescription.

Exactly. Repukelian politicians in red states have been doing their very best to REMOVE easy access to both contraception and abortion.

My favorite magazine said it best: "Without access, there is no choice." Religious conservative politicians who make these draconian laws don't want women having access OR choice.

Don't ask me.
