Nobody wanted to hear about child abuse when I was a foster child. Nobody care that I went through six years of being raped, tortured and almost murdered. I still carry the scars and will carry them for life. Thanks State of Tennessee for ruining the life of a male.

I strongly believe that this money should not be taken away from DCS. Taking care of those children and setting them in new homes is the most difficult thing that someone has to do. Our company interprets for them and when we get the call to interpret, sometimes i just want to transfer it to another interpreter becasue there has been many cases that after we finish the call we are also in tears.

I am a foster parent I have had the child in my home since nov. 2007 and all dcs is paying for is daycare they have not bought the first thing for him my husband and I have supported him all the way and the mother or father has never had this child in the 4 years of his life but dcs is working very hard to get the custody to the mother instead of getting him out of custody and letting us raise him as our own. So I think they need to lose the money!

The government has no problem cutting anything for children. Let them try to cut money for another stadium and see what happens...

These kids have been abused enough without the politicians abusing them too.

I think that this is a very tough time for the State of TN. Instead of the negative comments, let us be concerned about the children and their families and the possible services they may not receive from these cuts. Not all families and children that DCS works with are horrible people and they do benefit from the help they receive.

Social workers get it from all ends- neglectful and abusive parents, incredulous reactions over news stories of children returned to the home, foster parents who try to work the system, children who have no trust in anyone. They are paid so little, have such heavy caseloads, and have to go through so much red tape to take action. I can't think of any job less satisfying or more depressing than this. What would they consider to be a successful work day? Think about it. To take more resources away from them is a crime. P.S. I am not a social worker nor do I work for DCS ... I'm a sympathetic observer

"Disgusted" isn't a strong enough word, but repulsive, abhorrent, revolting, or nauseating aren't strong enough either.

Here is yet another war crime added to the horrendously lengthy list of war crimes attibutable to the Bush administration and the do less than nothing Congress. Our "representatives" throw outrageous amounts of money away in support of a lost cause in Iraq for the purpose of lining the oil-rich pockets of the war criminals running our country and these same criminals think nothing of taking money away from the citizens of our nation who need and deserve it most - our poor, our children, our elderly.

Instead of our congress men/women worrying about how the BCS is and investigating that, they should put that money in DCS. I have to say that being election year and looking at ALL candidates I have to ask is this the best we have to offer to run our country? So much wasted money on crap, when we have children that are in need of help, housing and treatments.

This is horrible. This affects these children who had NO CHOICE about who their parent's were, and it reaches all the way to those who try to help change their lives. We are officially rejecting these youth, forcing them to lose the quality of services they deserve, and then expecting them to become responsible adults all on their own. I believe this hits the phrase that "we first make a criminal and then we convict them for the crimes they commit." They did not choose this life...It takes dedication from social workers like you and me to make a difference...but if my "caseload" is increased significantly, quality is out the door and all we do is check in. Forget change. GOOD LUCK!!

What's the daily cost again to house a prisoner??? PREVENTION PEOPLE!!!

About one hundred dollars per day, paid by taxpayers. I agree with you, we as a society DO make these children criminals and convict them, when we the ability to change things for their benefit. What is it people say? Children are our future. Is this the future we want?

This has been going on long before Bush became President.

i am in the process of becoming a foster parent and i see how hard some social workers for the children who need someone to care and support them. there is a shortage now of workers and support staff. how can the gov. justify taking much needed workers from these children. the children are our future and they need us now in order to make it. do we really need a bunker underground as much as we need to protect our future, which is our children. the gov. needs to pay attention to us the tax payers and stop spending our dollars on things we do not approve of. please!!!!!!!!!! save our children. do not let this budget cut in DCS happen!!!!!!!!!!

I too agree that it is a shame to take money away from our children services, but at the same time we are a homestudy approved family in TN that is trying to adopt a baby that is in temporary custody of the state right now and they are fighting to keep her in the system. We have paid for our own homestudy, background checks, attorney ect...we can provide her a stable loving home and do not want/need a penny from the state to help us raise this child or our own children. Look how much money that would save the state 18 years of monthly payments, medical, dental ect. and they would rather keep her in the system.....I am confused...... can anyone explain the logic in this??

Everyone on here has something to say about why funding shouldn't be cut etc. I spent 16 years of my life as a foster child I've been in so many different homes and group homes I lost count. I think it is sad that funding has been cut however everyone has something to say but what is everyone doing it is one thing to get on here and complain but what actions is being put into motion to combat this. I know what steps I am taking don't you think it is about time that people stop complaining to each other and start complaining to those that have the power to make changes.

Those of you crying over a funding cut for DCS should be aware of Senate 3808 - that provides cash incentives for every child removed from a family and placed in foster care and subsequently adoption.

DCS operates in lieu of the due process accorded our most heinous criminals. They may investigate and investigate - until the protesting parents are forced to give up due to inability to pay for the legal bills.

The pusilanimous judges roll over for the DCS and extend the so-called investigations and procedures indefintely.

So I say, the sooner the DCS closes its doors the better.
