This story is just plain silly. First of all, anyone who has ever even looked at a geologic map of Tennessee can see why the oil wells are all in this part of the state--that's where the right kind of rocks and the right kind of traps for oil are located.

Second, DUH! Oil is combustible! It kind of makes sense--our cars' engines have to burn gasoline to make them work. Unfortunately, because oil burns, oil well fires are just a hazard that comes with the territory.

And the price of oil is very high right now, so no one's going to stop drilling for oil any time soon. Who wouldn't want a piece of that pie?

WBIR needs to stop fear-mongering and start understanding what the facts actually mean.

Sorry, there's more to my rant.

TDEC stated that 3 of the about 1500 wells have burned in the last year. That's 0.002% of the wells in the state!

Normally I love WBIR, and I respect their reporting, but in this case, they were stupid to allow such a hare-brained story that doesn't REALLY represent the facts on air.

If we have all these oil wells here, then why is gas prices here still outrageous? From the pictures I have seen, they all look to be capped off! I know we need to keep reserves and all, but come on, the gas prices are really hurting a lot of people, when we have so much here, then why is it not being used?

Maybe because OPEC, Haliburton and the other powers-that-be haven't figured out how to get a piece of it?

The oil companies that own the wells cap them to limit supply, thus driving up prices. It's a very crooked game.

WBIR is shifting to the far far left in certain places. Look at who posts on knoxviews.com and you will find BIR's finger prints all over the place.

As we all know those people (I flat LOVE that term) can't stand anything that might harm their mother earth. OIL is nasty and it does burn and guess what most REPUBLICANS live in the eastern section of the state..SO in their far far left minds it is very natural for these right wing republicans to go deep into the earth and suck all the oil over to THIS side of the state so they can bring it up and SET FIRE TO IT!

Hey if you think that is nuts..just remember the first hot day of summer ALGORY will come out of his mansion in Nashpatch and start saying the Aug. heat is all because of YOU GUEST IT..GLOBAL WARMING! SEE, their thinking is right along the twisted mind of ALGORY and the sad thing is a "few" of those who labor in the WBIR shop walk that crazy path.

So just keep it in mind the next
time you toss a plastic bottle in the trash (rather than haveing them in the land fill for
a thousand years I always throw mine out the car window) or shop for an SUV that "THOSE PEOPLE" are going to be very upset with you!
