I think that guns in bars is a bad idea. I am pro gun control anyway. A gun possesser could get drunk and start shooting. Also, a bar fight could take place and the gun could be used, or the gun could go off by itself and hurt the possesser or the surrounding stand bys.

The story was written Nov 20th - 09

http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/57514

Rep. Curry Todd, a main sponsor of the measure, said he hadn't seen the ruling but said he will ask the state to appeal. The Collierville Republican said he plans to "re-pass" legislation in January to fix any legal problems.

Plaintiffs' attorney David Randolph Smith said Bonnyman's ruling will stand unless overturned by an appeals court or the Tennessee Supreme Court. However, he said the state Legislature could pass a new law.

My position on this is identical to my theory on the treatment of drug addicts: Give them all the resources to practice these vices to their hearts content (for FREE!!!!!!) and let nature sort it out.

If you don't believe in carrying a gun into a bar, don't. At the same time, do not tell responsible gun owners what they can and cannot do. The judge NEEDS to read the U.S. Constitution more carefully and stop being dumb.

A licensed driver can get drunk, then go out and start driving and end up killing people who haven't been drinking that night as well.As a volunteer firefighter,I have seen that often enough to disike having to help extricate innocent people while the drunk sits in a police car without a scratch.
Maybe that judge should strike down the law allowing people with valid driver's licenses from going into bars with their car keys as well.

Why would anyone carry a gun in a restaurant is beyond me!!! My understand of the law is that one can only shoot someone in self-defense if that someone entered your private property. If you fear for your life while in a restaurant with your family, I suggest you go somewhere else, or better, order in.

Restaurant/business owners who don't have weapons are idiots. They can shoot in self-defense, and should... I read your link. Some of the shootings are gang related, others are over stupid arguments. Like loosing an argument call for murder.

This GUNS IN BARS debate will not go away any time soon.

What concerns and offends me most about this is that apparently no one wants to vocalize what the root of the debate really is.

This is not about the opinions [on either side of the issue] expressed by smarmy suited politicians looking over their shoulders to make sure they voice whatever will do their own careers the most good.

It is about one thing; pathetic little men who draw their definition of manhood from the dark ages - individuals whose fondest fantasies include putting a bullet in someone who looks at them the wrong way while they're out hangin' with their semiliterate bubba buddies at the local watering hole.

This is the same group gung-ho [no allusion to the marines who put their lives on the line for all of us]
about ramming our way of life [sublime as it truly is relative to most of the world] down the throats of anybody and everybody whether or not they want it.

It is about men [mostly men and sadly, some women too] who dwell in the bodies of adults but who are actually frightened twelve year olds emotionally and intellectually.

Regardless of what the constitution implies aside from references to "bearing arms" within the context of A MILITIA...and let me say that again slowly for the benefit of the above mentioned:

"...within the context of A M-I-L-I-T-I-A,"

any human being with a modicum of common sense knows that the last place to allow weapons is A BAR!!! Duh. Hell, my dog could figure that out.

I realize it's going to take a while, but we will not as a nation or a species become truly civilized, which should after all be our primary goal, until we pull our collective heads out of our butts and stop being swayed by the whims of ignorant, stupid men whose primary life pursuit is to fight whenever and wherever possible.

As you can see, if you are still here, seeing the way your intelligent comment has been judged, people do not give a rats @$$ about their rights or the rights of others. A bunch of communists who want everyone to live according to their will. When all of their rights are gone, they will only have themselves to blame.

Guns in bars ? Might as well pour gasoline on a fire. Nothing like a drunk with a loaded gun. A judge with common sense....finally.
