She should have changed his name to Mahdi instead of Martin.

In a later ruling, the judge was ordered by a Superior Court to change his name to
"Judge Retardo".

Why not give him a normal name like Abdul Jomammy Mohammed?

That quip was about as successful as the movie from which you take your screen name.

This Mother must be one of those low information voters that pop out kids as much as she uses her ETB card. There is nothing original about stupid childrens names, children have been beaten up on the school playgrounds for generations because of their parents wanting to be original. He will thank the Judge when he gets older and realizes how dumb his Mom is.

Sadly the parents were in court fighting over the child's LAST name. Dad wanted the child to have his name & the mom probably wanted it to be hers which would be more in line if she had other children with her last name. If they all have the same last name chances are people will think they're all from the same guy.

Gotta give the guy a smidge of credit for trying to take responsibility for his child.

As for the judge... well what she did was not constitutionally right but hey, at least she was decent enough to give both parents essentially what they want since Martin was the moms last name.

Prediction, the Judge will be overturned and hauled before the state's judicial review board. This kind of abuse will not go unnoticed, even in Tennessee.

I'm down the road from where this happened. So..some of you are saying, it is better to be a black child with the name Messiah, then to just change the name?

Shows you do not know a thing around Cocke County or the surrounding areas. This child would not stand a chance.

Who among you think the banjos down this way have stopped playing? Think again.

3 babies..huh?

Yikes! I wasn't even considering the area. I was thinking the child would have a hard enough time ANYWHERE with that name.

The mother wasn't thinking. Is all I can come up with. Putting a child's life in danger over "racial" rights....is way wrong on all levels.

This isn't a healthy place to be a Yankee...let alone a black. Some real strong minded folk this way. Don't put up with much. If anything at all.

They were lucky. In New Jersey, they take your kids away from you if a baker doesn't like the name of your your children!

If rapper TI can have a child names Messiah then it should be like that across the board for everyone.. But personally I would not have named my child that in the first place..

Why would someone want to name their child that anyway? That poor kid will be picked on its entire life!

According to the Social Security Administration, Messiah was the 4th fastest growing in popularity names for boys last year. It was number 387 on the list of the top 1000 names for boys, up 246 spots from the year before.

The judge in this case seriously abused her authority and is going to be overturned.

I agree with DC! This lady and her family live in TN and it is a totally different world compared to some of the other states.

Also when they said she has two older kids..........WHAT! She wants to name her child Messiah like she religious and all! hmmmmm?
