Minnesota, South Dakota parents sue to keep school for deaf open

The parents of eight deaf or hearing-impaired children are suing to keep open the state's only school for the deaf, saying closing the school would be illegal despite a sharp decline in enrollment over the past few decades.

Although I can empathize with the parents of the students at the school, it seems like a lot of money [1.2 million annually] to spend to assure educational opportunities for such a low number of people.

For a million bucks a kid they should have translators coming out their ears! What's the average pay for a translator? I'm limbering up the fingers right now!

I think they will need to provide services for these students at other schools then, a separate campus shouldn't be required. What's the cost of that?

These are the hard choices that have to be made. If the parents want to foot the bill, knock themselves out. We can't do all things for all people, no matter how deserving.
