I'm a happily married thirty year old who has two boys by a deadbeat man!! He calls to ask how there doing maybe every other week. My new husband has stepped up to the plate ans helps me provide a good life for them. For the first time I have decided to file child support on there father.(kids 11 & 4) I went through DSS and paid my $25.00 to file, this was in April 2005. He was finally served in August, and because we weren;t married, he requested a paternity test! I feel it was just a stall tactic. It is now Jan 2006 and I finally got my test results and A court date Feb 1 2006, because we live in different counties, they are making me take the hour & 1/2 drive to his family court. Why do we have to go to them, shouldn't they have to come to us???? Another way of making me pay for it. And forget about calling them to get info, they make you feel like krap!!! Like I'm bothering them!!! They should be mad at all these deadbeat Parents and show some respect for the single parents out here trying to make it!

I thought that the filing county would be the county where the court would be held. You may need to get an attorney for this one, but I would think that he would have to come to you and have the trial in the county where you filed the paperwork.

I know a man in Anderson County owes $15,000 in child support and he is currently on probabation for fraudulent checks. Think they will ever do anything about him? Doubt it.

IF you get an attorney then they would be able to bring the jurasdiction to where the kids are at.
What I don't understand is that even when a parent is paying the child support then why does that give the other parent the right to deny the noncustodial parent visitation. They will do something about the child support not being paid, but nothing when it comes to when the visitations are not being given like it states in papers.

[I WAS GOING THROUGH THE SAME ORDEAL. I WAS A SINGLE PARENT WITH THREE BEAUTIFUL KIDS AGES 12,5,AND 21MONTHS. I THOUGHT THAT BEING ON WELFARE WOULD GET THESE DEADBEAT DADS QUICKER,BOY WAS I WRONG!!!!!.THEY NEVER DID ANYTHING,UNTIL I MADE UP IN MY MIND TO DO THIS ON MY OWN. I CALLED THE HEADQUARTERS IN COLUMBIA AND SENT ME APPLICATION, BUT OF COURSE I STILL HAD TO PAY THE 25.00 FEE. THEN THE HEARING WAS IN THE COUNTY WHERE HE'S FROM,BUT IN THE END I GOT MY KIDS MONEY AND THEN SOME MORE. JUST BE PATIENT BECAUSE GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE THAT WAIT. THE SYSTEM WORKS FOR THE MAN BECAUSE THEY REALLY DON'T MAKE THEM TAKE CARE OF RESPONSIBILITY!!!!!!!!

A person normally is sued in the county or his or her residence. I know this can be a nuisance but it cuts down on frivilous lawsuits. I'm not implying that yours is frivilous. If someone moves to another state (for example) it places an undue burden on him or her to respond to a suit so far from his or her residence. Remember, everyone is innocent until proven guilty. For someone to sue someone who lives far away, they must firmly believe they have a solid case. If this is so, they normally win and can recover expenses. If the party being sued left their former residence illegally it is a whole different story. Good luck!

I DONT BLAME DSS, I BLAME THE LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR NOT GOING OUT LOOKING FOR THESE DEAD BEAT DADS. ME AND MY HUSBAND STAY IN THE SAME TOWN, NOT EVEN 10 MILES APART. THEY RIDE PAST HIM AND KNOW HE HAS A BENCH WARARNT ON HIM. HE OWES ME $9,700.30 AND I PROBABLY WONT EVEN GET TO SEE THIS MONEY, NOT IF THE SYSTEM IS GONNA ACT AS THOUGH THEY DONT CARE, BECAUSE THEY'D RATHER LOCK UP PUBLIC DRUNK PEOPLE. I CONSIDER MY SELF AS A SINGLE MOTHER RAISING 2 YOUNG TEENAGE DAUGHTERS. AND IF U HAVEN'T REALIZE THESE YOUNG LADIES COME WITH ALOT OF ESPENSES, FAR AS SCHOOL, AND EVERYDAY NEEDS. I QUOTE MY YOUNGEST DAUGHTER " I JUS DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE POLICE SYSTEM. I MEAN I HAVE NEEDS YOU KNOW. I AM A GROWING TEENAGER, I HAVE SCHOOL EXSPENSES AND TRIPS AND U NAME IT I NEED IT. I HAVE A DEAD BEAT FATHER THAT DOES NOTHING FOR ME. MAYBE A MERE DOLLAR HERE OR ONCE EVERY BLUE MOON IS NOT DOING ME ANY GOOD. WHAT I REALLY WANT FOR THE SYSTEM TO DO IS GO OUT, DO YOUR JOB, AND ACTUALLY FOR A CHANGE, HELP SOME ONE. Y'ALL ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES WHO HAVE A FAMILY"

My kids dad has not seen my kids in 3 years and has not paid support in 2 years. He was arrested in March 2004 for not paying and they sentenced him to a year in Jail. He served his year and was released in March 2005. He has not made any payments and is now $14,000. The Child Support enforcement Divison has my Case and they seem not to be doing anything. He has bench Warrents on him. He called me 2 times since he has been released and all the comments he makes is that I will be sorry one day when he gets his revenge. I have remarried and have been married for 4 years. My husband loves my kids and have excepted my kids as his own. Just as we have Full Custody of his 3 kids as well. Their mom is in prison for Drugs and is now $2,000 behind as well. I know that the system has such a strange way with things. They know they can locate my ex husband and all they have to do is run his Driver's License number of his Social Security Number. I also feel that putting the men in jail is a waste of time because all they do is get further behind. They should make Boot camps and make them work to pay their support. All this manual work will make them not want to come back again and they will keep their support paid up. For those that run make more punishment for them which is to order them to stay in the same state it was ordered and take their driver's license and things like that.

Here's hoping this gets read by someone in goose creek south carolina....I am in Michigan, and my ex husband's new wife told me he is currently residing on lumber lane in goose creek...he owes me a huge amount of child support...2 kids he never speaks to...has anyone met James (Jim) Lewis yet??? Any contact info on him would be soooooo greatly appreciated...email me at [email protected] with any info...why don't more men want to keep in touch with their kids??? I haven't pushed in ten years for the money...but now I think the time has come for him to face some music if he cant talk to his kids...then shouldn't he at least pay for them?

I think that since irs can locate and flag funds that are due deadbeats through tax refunds that locating these men is able to be done. Someone does not think getting the money to the family is important. Also, Why not lock the men up that don't work and put them to work with a wage that is paid straight to their family for the children

The State of South Carolina doesn't even have a computer software system in place to help enforce child support. I understand they're about to implement one, so maybe it will help!

This is exactly what I'm going through Christina. I love my son and I wish to see him but she refuses. I do not have enough money to get the legal work done, but I earn enough that "legal aid" will not help me. She refuses ALL letters I send to my son as well as money. If she'd only open them.. she'd know money was inside.

I'm married with 3 kids and we are barely surviving. The court doesn't care. I may be going to jail soon.. cuz I simply am NOT earning enough to pay as consistently as I'd like.:(

The kid is suffering more by her refusing to let him see his siblings and his father.

I am a single parent of 4 kids and the father of my first two kids is trying to make it difficult for me, because I've moved on with my life. Every time he gets a job and they start taking child support out of his check he will quit the job. Now he's $700 dollars in arrears and they seem to not want to take action on him. He is beyond a deadbeat, he may call his kids twice a year. When they go to they grandmother house hoping to see him he always dodges them.

Why do the fathers that try to do the right thing by paying child support always get the short end of the stick? I feel that the child should be placed in the home of the more stable parent. You have some women who are having child after child, and is not working, and just rely on the child support checks to come in. When the courts order child support, they should also order a visitation order. Also if a mother is not working they should give her a time frame, where she should have to find a job and contribute to her childs needs. Women who keep their kids from their father, only hurt the child

YOU ARE SO RIGHT I NEVER MISS MY CHILD SUPPORT IT IS $600.00 WEEKLY YET MY EX HAS BEEN IN COURT 3 TIMES FOUND IN CONTEMPT AGAIN AND AGAIN. SHE HAS HAD ME ARRESTED 3 TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR, I AM NOW PAYING A CRIMINAL AND A FAMILY COURT ATTORNEY. THEY BOTH DO VERY WELL-BUT NOW A NEW WRINKLE-MY EX HAS BEEN TALKING TO THE DSS AND THEY COURTESY OF A BRAINLESS WORKER-ARE ATTEMPTING TO LIMIT MY VISITATION RIGHTS-MY KIDS ARE REQUESTING TO SPEAK TO THE JUDGE BUT THE DSS WORKER SAYS THAT IT WOULD BE TOO MUCH STRESS AND 'MENTAL ANGUISH'. THE OLDER KIDS ARE 14,13,12,10. IT IS A SYSTEM THAT IS CORRUPT!

My name is Marilynn(posting under my husband's name). My problem is the opposite of most noncustodial parents. My ex-husband and I have three kids 19,18,and 13,and he never spent time with them. So I dropped child support because I feel as though the physical contact with the kids were more important. I use to have to hunt him down to get them or the summer. Out of all those years, they spent three of their summers with him. When the oldest was 15, I dropped the support. The noncustodial parent who sit and wait for the mailman to come. The child's monterary needs should be split 50/50 between parents, not a parent and the state. I get tired of hearing the noncustodial parent saying they cannot find a job, anything is better than nothing. I have worked many fast foods and grocery stores to take car of mines. When kids get older they know who took care fo them and made the sacrifices for them. To all the noncustodial parents stop degrading the other parent, because are not as out the loop as you may think. When they get older it may end up biting you in the butt.
