My grand daughters were born 8 weeks early which meant they would be starting almost everything 8 weeks later. When they were born they couldn't suck nor breath on their own. They had irregular heart beats called mitral value and intracranial bleed very common with premies. They had to be monitored to much sure that this did not develop into cardiac problems or a build up of pressure into their little heads which cause problems cerebral paralysis or mental delay. Once home they required follow up and monthly trips to the doctor for shots to prevent pneumonia. Then don't dare look at any of the developmental charts because at 6 months they are really only 4 months and heaven forgive if they are not where they are suppose to be at 4 months. With so much on the plate you sometimes forget that each baby is a individual. I am a health care provider, so I knew what to except and how to help to develop the twins. Baby net is such an important program to bring the babies to their potentials and to help the parents threw this difficult time. The girls will be 1 this week- smart as could be, using a sippy cup, findly have some teeth and very close to walking.
