Well, the "church" has come a long way since St. Francis of Assisi gave away the only pot he had to p--- in. Do these fellows do "good works?" To a degree, sure. But how can they maintain a sense of decency by accepting those levels of compensation? That is a manifestation of vulgarity that Cardinal Woolsey would have considered "just," but many other of the faithful would not.

Especially considering that most of the dietary and housekeeping employees in Diakon's retirement complexes earn minimum wage....some kept just under the threshold of hours for receiving health insurance benefits.

and with all that money St. Mark's would not even pay their bill in full for restoration work because they simply did not want to.......how pathetic is that?!!!!

What bothers me the most about this, is the wide disparity in pay between the CEO and the lower paid employees. Who actually keeps the doors of the agency open? One CEO or hundreds of workers? What is their total payroll in relationship to the CEO's salary? This certainly cannot help employee morale to see this disparity. It will be interesting to see how this is resolved.

Who actually keeps their doors open?
HHS - Health and Human Services - ie, Medicare.
The contributions of congregations, Synods, individuals, etc are a pittance compared with the 800 pound gorilla called Social Security. They dance to their tune.
Time was that congregations would collect food bought at grocery stores to help reduce the expenses of the kitchens of the care facilities---no more. HHS regulations.
Congregations used to collect produce and food at Harvest Home festivals that would make their chancels rival a Grange display at the Fair. No more. HHS regulations.
They have pretty much become LINO- Lutheran in Name Only.

McKee's being groomed by the Lutherans to head-up a major oil compamy. They're getting him acclimated to making "big" money to alleviate any shock "from making much, much more than what I'm really worth" when he makes the transfer. I worked for a nonprofit. The Executive Director changed his title to President so he could pay himself more, actually an unlimited amount. Be careful and fully investigate a nonprofit before handing them donations. With some, your money goes straight to the "top". Sorry but true.

It will be interesting to see how this is resolved. Nothing like a church-affiliated organization exploiting their workers. It truely is the American way in our times. There really is no longer a sense of propriety in this country, and the false, in-your-face "morals" of the churches of the conservative right aren't it either.

It will be interesting to see how this is resolved. Truthteller You are so right about these non-profit and non taxable organizations. There are some right in our own backyard in York County that the CEOs get all the big pay, live the good life and all the recognition and all along the lower paid employees who can barely make their mortgage and not much extras struggle along to be the backbone and keep it up and running these organizations. Many of these large agencies won't even pay overtime when it is worked and the lower employees must keep their hours under a minimum so they can not receive benefits like health insurance, sick days, personal time , vacations, etc. But these CEOs enjoy luxurious lunches, enjoyable vacation like travel, paid for vehicles, etc. It usually is a thankless job because the higher ups usually will not even notice or give a greeting to the lowers passing them in a hallway. Many times the lowers are ordered not to discuss with members they serve information about thes associations. This is all done in the name of helping the fellow man in the name of Christianity. What a farce so the big deals can secure funding from the federal government and donations from private parties or the public so they can continue to live their lavish lifestyles Also look at how the bring to this country illegal immigrants and then sponsor them and let them live in free housing which these agencies own . All the while their own people who are United State taxpaying citizens and making meeker wages could also use a helping hand. But know there needs to be these Kings and Queens and then the lowly workers all in the name of a Christian organization. What is wrong with this picture. Hmmm I see now that there is a Senator who has called attention to thee IRS about these orgs. They are starting to be investigated.

Don't worry Rev McKee and Mark Pile got their "pronised" payouts. Is that why the termination of 30 employees? Or the fact they are loosing money each month. Does any one really what to know where the money goes?

This is a typical story of over run religious @$$holes at it's best. It's kinda like the black preacher from out west somewhere who is building a McMansion and has something like 3 or 4 Rolls Royces. I'll never have to wonder why I don't give, attend or fall at any religious sect's mercy. Yet another example of true Mind over Matter, if you don't have a Mind, it really doesn't much matter!
