Ok look, I do realize there is a problem. A big one. To buy insurance on your own is very expensive. Maybe make it take deductible? Heck maybe it is I've not been in the situation. However side note. Good friends of mine have been uninsured for years and have 2 kids. They claimed it would cost them $700 a month for catatrophic. Well I researched it, that's bull. Insurance at the bare bones is in case something really horrible happens. Get a high deductible and suck it. These same friends have bought their son 4 cars to date, have an RV, 2 motorcycles, a boat, brand new car... I could go on. I can't sympathize that much.
I don't believe you. Anecdotes impress no one. I could make up one that contradicts you and you would never know the difference. And even if there are such stupid people, they are surely a minority. Maybe they gave you a bs story because it was none of your business?
BTW, group health insurance for a family of four averages $12000 a year in this country.

Individual coverage is much higher, and harder to get.

Nice try, no dice.

I said up front it IS a problem. I don't dispute that there are a lot of people in the middle, make to much to get it for free, and can't afford the kind of insurance I am fortunate to have because of my employer. My husband just lost his job and got the Cobra letter. It would have been about $1000 a month. What normal people can afford that? Not us. But for catastrophic insurance with HIGH deductible is affordable if you don't qualify for free. You don't have to run to the doc. when you get the sniffles. It's just for something major that would break you. I KNOW the system is broken. I don't have an answer.

In the mid 1970's a doctor visit went up to $7 (that is SEVEN DOLLARS). Private industry took years for that price hike.

When the RWJF (non-government but rules it) came into existance in the 1970's while Nixon was the US President, they did a real number on the medical industry with it's grants, studies and recommendations (mandates) which put all doctors under groups connected to hospitals, doing away with a private doctor who knew how to do things, including sew a finger on.

The goal: More money for the pharma's (who fund the RWJF) and complete control of the medical industry which ALSO allows the RWJF to have its nose in everyones personal records for their PROFIT.

The entire plan uses our national foundations to do its bidding and that includes the smoking bans that bring giant profits back to it.

You see the RWJF is funded by Johnson and Johnson who owns at 260 pharmaceutical companies.

WE THE PEOPLE are living in and with a giant SCAM!
Our politicians allowed and allow it !!!

For those of you clueless, here's what's bumping up the cost of med care.

*New procedures w/big bux equipment

*Illegals w/out money that county hospitals are bound to care for

*Other people w/out money who can't or won't pay

*To a lesser extent, new RXs

It is as simple as that. Drug cos have drastically cut back on making new one-of-kind meds.

BTW MDs are high on suicide list

Are you thinking of moving to the Left Coast?
Beautiful and clean country out there, though real estate isn't cheap.
You can choose your own Doctor here, so at least you can pick the one who best communicates with you.
If you go to the BC gov't web site, I'm sure you can get all the information you need on Pharmacare and answers to any other questions you may have.....Good Luck!

I beg to differ on that In Europe health, and medical is all about "US" they really care for one another, In the United states it is all about "Me" Everyone is selfish I am referring to medical! I have friends in Europe when they are sick they just go to the dr.and are even paid back the money they spent to get to drs In the US you must pay 400 to 600 a month and then pay some crazy deductible like 120 a visit til you reach 3000.00. I think the 400 to 600 is plenty alone . A Dr should be a Dr if he really enjoys helping people. A Dr. in it for the money makes me sick!

strange that you say that... tell me why does Europe take care of it's people UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE and they have plenty of money not to mention the Euro is much stronger than the dollar. But in the USA we are in recession weak dollar and everyone is over charged when it comes to health care. BTW Doctors in Europe are just as rich as Doctors in the USA so goes to show you Europe must be doing something RIGHT and the USA not so~!

we should "put a cap on how much Docktors and Hospitals, and Health insurance should get", they are the ones that are doing this too us, and yes Congress does not feel the weight of high cost medical they are coverd, we pay for there hospital bills, aint we kind, it's our fault we have allow this to happen, we are not wanting to know the system and they know this, we dont ask for an itemized billing, and ask who gone to do the procedures. we have that right,

Personally, I see the "for-profit" system in the US as morally wrong, on so many levels. How can one justify making a profit from sick people? How can one justify enormous medical bills, causing people to lose everything they worked so hard for, just because they happened to get sick?

I'm not about to advocate full European-style socialized healthcare for the United States, but reforms are urgently needed to stop the fleecing and the ripping off of ordinary Americans, who are paying up the a** to fund greedy corporations and CEOs, while healthcare costs continue to rise well above the rate of inflation.

You have retold the story of the ANT and the GRASSHOPPER.

Let us hope that one of your friends' children do not get leukemia; or that one of the parents do not suffer a spinal injury.
Then Winter will come for your grasshopper friends, and for their cars and RV's.

It is not the 'profits' that are at fault. Believe it or not, a fair profit is healthy for all, healthcare or retail.

What we have now, however, is an economic cancer:

A system conceived to provide relief from high doctor's and hospitals costs; has only added a layer of blood-sucking (literally) bureaubots who care only for profit, and rape their clients, and the health-providers both.

Health insurers are probably responsible for more deaths than drunk drivers.

Drug companies do not spend much on research and development anymore, however, their profits are huge. It's been like this for years!
