I work and spend my hard earned money on food, I still can't eat such foods as fresh fruit, steak, or fresh veggies. Food cost to much. I'm lucky if I get to eat for a week. Try being a single parent. I make to much to get assistance according to the goverment. What a slap in the face. So what do I do, take a pay cut? So I can loose my home and car.

I agree with Adrain 100%.. I am a mom of 3 growing boys who go threw milk, bread, and fruit like there is no tomorrow. 1 gallon of whole milk is now almost 4.00$ a gallon and thats riseing every day. Pretty soon it will be cheaper to own a cow and make your own milk instead of going to the store. As my kids get older my husband and I will each have to have 2 jobs just to pay for food for our kids, but then again with the cost of gas the way it is now in a few years we wont be able to afford to go to work because gas will be way to high for lower class families.. I think every rich person should live the life of a lower income family for one month. I bet they wont make it.

The cruelest cut of all is the fact that the poorest people are the fattest because they cannot afford the lean cuts of meat or the fresh fruits & vegetables. What's the cheapest foods? Pasta, processed foods, etc., the worst for a healthy child and adult.

I wish all the government decision makers were made to eat a month on foodstamps like this guy - and I mean shopping and cooking for themselves as well, not just handing the money over to a professional chef.

I THINK THAT EVERY GOVONOR IN THE COUNTRY SHOULD TAKE THE PLEDGE TO LIVE ON FOOD STAMPS FOR A MONTH, THEN THEY COULD RECCOMEND SOMETHING FOR THE REGULAR PEOPLE ON FOOD STAMPS.

I have been on food stamps and they really saved my family"s life. I had a minimum wage job and was trying to pay bills and feed 5 people. We did not have the richest food but we were able to be some what happy, But it did help us learn a wonderful lesson "to not take things for granted". My children have thanked me for the lesson and to me that is powerful. So please rethink the idea of the food stamps you may take away a life and a lesson.
Thsnk you, Linda

Wow, aren't you full of yourself? Most people I have met over the years that were on food stamps just used them temporarily for emergency purposes. Why don't you get off your high horse and educate those who need help instead of screaming at them?

Im not full of myself there, darling. here is a little fact for ya. You can be a family of 3 and make 3000 a month and still receive food stamps in the state of Oregon. If the whole U.S. was ran by the same idiots that run the west coast states then well would all be on food stamps sponging of the govt. I am all for getting help through a hard times, but there is way too many people out there taking advantage of the system. Oh does that hurt people feelings.....OH WELL. If it hurts then do something about it. I remember when welfare was embarrassing. It was an insult but something that at one time ya needed. but nobody knew it and you were not on them for long. KNOW THEY HAVE DEBIT CARDS!!!! Screw that. Bring back the food stamps make them embarrassed to be on them.

You have got to be kidding me!! I have worked as a checker at a major grocery store as well as in a small store that takes food stamps and I have yet to see anyone who gets that small amount. Oh wait, ELDERLY people get a whole $10 a month while overweight, cell phone carrying, freshly done nail folks that don't claim their live in boyfriend's income get hundreds of dollars to spend on JUNK in my store! They even have the nerve to complain that their card has been demagnatized and that the STATE is too LAZY to issue a new one! I have been dirt poor in my lifetime but I NEVER went on assistance...I got a job and supported myself and my children. Sure, we went without things like steak and name brand foods but we were fine!
Seeing this story just aggrivated me to no end.

How does the Governor think he's going to convince anyone that the woman shopping with him needs more food ? Did anyone notice that she is a pretty 'hefty' person ? And why does the Governor need Organic banana's at .66 each ? Talk about being in touch with reality !

I get 674 in ssi and 75 in food stamps. Im not on section 8 cause they closed the list and now that I found out more of their stupid rules I dont want to be on it. so I have to find a place with friends and pay 1/4 the rent or be on the streets the rest of my life. rent is just way to high now a days. now as for food a lot of my food is food that I get from the dollar tree. other wise I would go hungery. yes I know there is places that feed the homeless and hungery but do to the fact that I dont know how fresh some of the food is I choose not to go. I dont need to get sick. In todays world what I make on ssi would just cover the rent and if I'm lucky the lights. food costs to much and the government seem to thinkwe can be healthy on that much income and food stamps. I'm married but my husband cant live with me or our benifits will be taken away from us. so to make things work I have to divorce my husband and we have to move into a place with some friends. my doctor wants me to eat healthier but the cost of food now a days is not good for people that need to get fresh friuts and vegitables. I know some people only get 10 dollars a month food stamps. If ted thinks he can servive on that tet him try. there are a lot of over weight people in oregon that need help bad and the government needs to fix it. people go to fast food places to eat cause its what they can afford. See my next post on what I think the government can do to help out this state.

Ways the government could help our state.

1)The government could put it so health plans cover things like the stomache bypass, lapband, ect.

2)stop closing down the schools kids learn better in small groups.

3)Give more on ssi/ssd.

4)Give more in food stamps.

5)Dont punish those on ssi/ssd for getting married.

Ive had 4 kids take from me at birth and was deamed unfit cause I abused and neglected the kids the funny thing is that I never took them home from the hospital. so how can I be abusive and neglectful of my kids. On that not here is number 6 on the list make a law that every parent gets evaluated on if they can raise a kid before you take it. if you was to ask me questionsof how to raise a kid you would be asking how did she get the kids taken if she knows this much.

As my final thought. If we the people of oregon vote it in then stand up for us. we the people voted for same sex couples to have the legal right to marry and then it was taken away then reinstated the changed to domestic partners, stop the nonsense we voted for it now we should have the right to marry who we want be it man or woman. I personally would like one of each and it be legal. these are just my thoughts. like you have your thoughts.

thank you for you time. peace to all.

not all people that get stamps are that way some of us get it cause we cant work. and yes the lowest amount a person get on food stamps is 10 dollars the most I have seen is for a family of 10 was 1000.00 dollars. I get ssi and food stamps for a total of just over 750. THen theres rent eletric food and phone and yes its a cellphone but its a pay as you go some months I have no phone and I dont watch tv.
