"PERS, remember, was created in the years after World War II, when it seemed that people who took public-sector jobs were at a disadvantage in compensation. Today, roughly 200,000 Oregonians are out of work, and nearly one in five qualifies for food assistance. In this new normal, many Oregonians feel like "have-nots," and they look at PERS beneficiaries, enviously, as "haves."
It is indefensible to be yammering about over sized public pensions when Oregon is, yet again, in the depths of yet another depression. This is typical Oregon thinking: STUPID and MEAN.

Oregonians appear on the surface to be polite but underneath that thin facade are hearts made of rocks and souls made of pure, unabashed spiteful meanness.
