Good point SpaceBlues. That Canada has their own refineries and that pipelines are safer for people rather than having oil transported by rail.
The next step..

Then why doesn't Canada refine their own oil in their own refineries? However they transport their own oil in their own country..

For the same reason why Canada use to transport grain through American and Canadian rail system to ports that had the infrastructure to do so. New pipelines from Alberta to the Gulf of Mexico would do the same for production.

PIPING oil to THEIR refinery would eliminate the risk of rail accident WITHOUT the need to pipe the oil all the way across America.

We need a balanced energy plan that makes since that includes North American oil instead of depending on the Middle Eastern oil and to all the other options we have.

the XL pipeline will carry the dirtiest oil across the Ogallala shallow drinking water supply to 3 million people from the Dakota's to Texas where it will be refined in Houston then shipped out to the world market, this is insanity, if we don't have safe drinking water in our future, then our children will die2141, another West Virginia?

The price of oil keeps going up not down, so if we have more the price should come down.

above ground pipeline carrying Canada's dirtiest ,polluted oil across 5 million peoples drinking water supply, and a easy target for terrorists to blow up or for red necks that have nothing more to do than just shoot holes through it, five million people lives depend on that water to live survive and for about 100 permanent jobs, land owners don't get rich for right of ways across their land, rich in corn , wheat and fresh water on their way to Houston refineries, refined and shipped out to the world market where we then import it back and we tax payers subsidize big oil to do that, and big oil and their investors don't give a shit about climate change and what we will leave our grandchildren

The Keystone pipeline is only beneficial to the oil & gas barons, NOT the country as a whole.
We won't see the price of gas drop by even a penny if this pipeline is approved because every drop of oil it carries will be exported to Asia.
The ONLY way I could support the pipeline is if it was required by law that every drop of crude it carries is used ONLY in America.
Now I wonder why the oil boosters in Congress are so opposed to that idea?
Well the odds are that the oil will be shipped to South America or Europe and not Asia as that would be the most profitable location due to transportation costs. demand and time. That would free up oil companies to shift their oil production sites in Asia to Asia only nations.

But you are right, America will not see the benefit at the pump like they do now in the northern states. Which is the current cost effective location for the oil from Canada to be sold to and made into gas which then benefits most of the northern great lakes states.

Let's be honest, All reports have shown that even with the gut of American oil boom and America standing as the 1st place in exporter of refined oil products including gasoline we can safety put to bed the notion that increase supply (more oil and more gasoline)= reduced price at the pump, Our current standing as world's leading exporter of gasoline proves that point.

It's tragic that people still chant "drill baby drill" when asked about how to reduce gasoline prices and even when given this tidbit of facts about gasoline exportation going on they still insist that more oil is going to solve the problem.

The pillaging of American natural resources continues for the profit of those that hold no desire to aid the nation that they take so eagerly from and demand to pay back as little as possible or worse, Demand that the American government pay them for what they do.

But I rant, I know not what the solution is, I usually am a believer in supply and demand, But bearing witness to the current status of the oil and gasoline market in America my faith in that time honored model has been greatly shaken.
