First of all;
.
the states;
.
including Oklahoma;
.
surrendered control of marriage over to the federal government so that Congress could pass the ***FEDERAL*** Defense of Marriage Act in 1996; which is a FEDERAL marriage law
.
Duh!
.
So all these hissy-fits about state control is nothing more than the functional equivalent of red-faced childish temper tantrums with the quivering bottom lip poked out
.
Every time a state sells a $35 marriage license; the federal government pays out the $467,562 rights; benefits; and privilege package that follows over the lifetime of EACH marriage
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/03/your-money/... ;
.
So the federal government pays a fortune for rights to make the marriage rules
.
If the states want to make the marriage rules; then the states can fork over the $467,562 every time they sell a $35 marriage license
.
Not one single state can afford to pay out that much money in their wildest dreams; so they need to bite the bullet and admit they don't control marriage any more

Don't worry. You can still diddle with the church secretary when your wife isn't looking.
