Where was InHofe 40 years ago? Citing a peer reviewed scientific paper written over 40 years ago that clearly demonstrated the dangers of human-made carbon pollution and accurately predicted it would create a future of global warming, Dana Nuccitelli at the Guardian points out Thursday that "perhaps it's about time that we start listening" to climate scientists.

The paper, written by renowned British meteorologist John Stanley Sawyer and published in the journal Nature (pdf) in 1972, estimated that carbon dioxide levels would increase 25 percent by 2000 from 1850 levels and that global average surface temperatures would rise by 0.6°C.

Sawyer's numbers were just about dead on, Nuccitelli reports.

The rise in human-made carbon pollution and increase in temperature were undeniably related, Sawyer warned, and would cause changes in weather and wind patterns around the world.

Jim Inhofe on global warming,“I was actually on your side of this issue when I was chairing that committee and I first heard about this. I thought it must be true until I found out what it cost.”

Wouldn't he be a dandy one to head the global warming committee?

While we're discussing gloBull warming, we might as well have someone head up the committee to search for Bigfoot too. I know I'd sure like a resolution on that.

Oh no, here we go again! Now Inhofe feels it's "his turn" to embarrass the US with his ignorant prejudiced committee "leadership" as he rejects the whole "global warming thing’" because it’s cold outside: http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2014/01/06/3...

While science has not found sufficient evidence to support the existence of a separate "bigfoot" species, it has a preponderance of evidence supporting the existence of global warming. Assuming that you're serious, I'm curious how you justify denying that fact?

There is no evidence. If there was, you'd be waving it in everyone's face.

Coldest winter here in modern history. Where's that gloBull warming again??

You'll note that I'm mainly on a fishing expedition here, asking questions in hopes of getting some reasonable discussion, rather than the polarized exchange of futile insults. Everyone must know by now that I'm a political, social and economic progressive. Aside from occasional trolling aimed at soliciting discussion from those most hardcore right wing extremists who don't trust science or logic and as a result whose only recourse is rhetoric limited to banal remarks, I generally just state my progressive views, refrain from attacking other posters personally and ask questions. I see no need to waive empirical information or logical conclusions since they speak for themselves and waiving them would be not only distracting, but also annoying.

Having set that record straight, there's a clarification I'd like to share — weather and climate are separate issues. Although counterintuitive perhaps, colder weather can be a result of warmer climate. I'll refer you to NASA for expertise: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/noaa-n/clim...

I don't believe misspelling "global" adds credence to your argument. By the way, what is your argument to support your denial of global warming?

Thank you for confirming that AGW enhanced warm fronts have pushed strongly into the North Pole region for the last 4+months(including all winter), over millions of square kilometers around the NP. Not one day has been of normal temperature. Average temperatures over those millions of square kilometers have been as high as 16degC(29degF) over average. So much heat & energy are in the Arctic that AGW powerfully & rapidly pushes what Arctic "cold" is there, south onto Canada & the U.S.(central & eastern), even setting cold weather temperature lows with all that "warm" Arctic cold. Sometimes, Arctic cold is forced even further south, to Mexico, Central America, southern China, India, Iran, Iraq, & Northern Africa, setting cold weather records there & even snowing in Iraq & Northern Africa.

You're making an excellent AGW reporter, often delineating the enhanced AGW energies throughout the world. Thank you.

Hmmm, so in the 70s, the hoaxers screamed of globull cooling. Then when it didn't cool, they screamed of globull warming. Then went it didn't warm, they just changed it to climate change so no matter what the weather did, they were covered either way.

Darn that ol Mother Earth, not following the liberal agenda. Who does she think she is. Maybe you should try and have her silenced. Isn't that what you liberals try and do to anybody who dares disagree with your opinions?

Just think, if those cavemen 10,000 years ago hadn't of been driving around in their SUVs, my state would still be covered in an ice sheet a mile thick. Maybe all of you libs should move out of the northern hemisphere in protest of the polluting cavemen before you that caused all if that glacial melting.

If you are conservative, then I suppose that scientists must be liberals. LOL You have no desire to discuss the issue. Just another denier trolling. A complete waste of time. The facts are; The Earth is warming. CO2 is a GHG. Burning fossil fuels increases the CO2 in the atmosphere. Can you disprove any of those?

Your three statments make no connection between global warming and C02.

Right. As I said, this state was buried under a mile of ice 10,000 years ago, however I doubt that warming was due to cavemen burning fossil fuels.
