It makes me mad to see people using their food stamps to buy a cart full of RedBull or perhaps a cart full of steaks when the working class is reduced to making ends meat. To cut the red tape, perhaps those who are on food stamps should submit to a frequent drug testing to insure that our tax paying dollars are not being abused.

Maybe if dhs would focus on making deadbeat parents pay their childsupport less people would need foodstamps.

I am a single Mom and yes I depend on foodstamps. I don't have my hair and nails done I don't drive a new car. I buy food that will feed my kids meals not just junk, but maybe if DHS would focus on making parents pay their childsuppor and not let them be over ayear behind and still not do anything I would need them less!

If your ex was paying child support, you probably wouldn't need food stamps. The DHS isn't a police force, it's an organization designed to help people in need, such as yourself, because, among other reasons, your ex isn't doing his part.

The foodstamp program needs to be overhauled. It needs to allow families to purchase only some items. LIke the WIC program. It should allow the purchase of whole foods, bread, fruit, veggies, meat, eggs, milk, butter, dry staples and vitamins. NO junk food; tweenkies, soda, chips, red bull, etc. There should be limits to what it covers. If you want to buy all the crap food, pay cash.

If they cant support their own families they should not be having families. Being born does not come with the right to feed off of society. Let them starve.

I agree with to a point. Yea let the parents starve. But to punish a child for his parents mistake is evil and wrong

First of all Multiple Sclerosis is not a disease that prevents a person from working, it is an excuse. If the SNAP program handed out commodities of peanut butter, beans, powdered milk, powdered eggs, oatmeal, flour, sugar, lard, butter and cheese and canned chicken would the same number of people be standing in lines. The SNAP program is a joke. Every month I see people buying, bottled water, bubble gum, candy bars, chips, cookies, pop and gatorade. The SNAP program is supposed to be a nutritional program.

I feel that the Food-stamp program is good program to help those out in need. However I do have some concerns about it. I have witness many and I do mean mean many of people who receive Food-stamps and get other types of help from DHS that do not need them. I think our Welfare system needs to get tough and start drug testing everyone that receives any type of help from DHS. This way it would eliminate all those who are committing fraud with the system. There are just way to many people out there who refuse to work so instead of using what money they have for food, housing a utilities they use it on drugs and alcohol.

its amazing the ignorance of people but you can always spot them loud and clear..fortunately the real people( kind, sincere, honest, generous and hardworking) are swept up in the trash because everyone knows the loudest get heard. i have read alot of the comments on here and alot of the things that were bought by people(ie. red bull can't
be bought on food stamps. as for the junk food.. people have to be taught what is good and nutritious for their family to eat. i would enjoy a good meal at least once a month(ie. steak, salad, baked potato, cheesecake and a good pepsi) even if i was only eating ramen noodles and saltine crackers the rest of the month. karma people, ya have to watch your karma.

I worked at Walmart for awhile and saw people come in dressed like they just came out of a magazine driving new SUV Lincolns and Cadillacs. Buying food using food stamps. Also what about the ones that more then one family living in the house like three to five family and they all get food stamps. It is really sad when you are born and raised here and can't get help from your own state. The system need to change.

I totally agree that there needs to be something done with what can be purchased on food stamps. and I also like the idea of drug testing before they are approved...
but then you have those families that just keep having more kids, and for some reason the parents DO NOT work and yet they eat better than those of us that work 40-60 hours a week!!
IF YOU CAN'T FEED EM', DON'T BREED EM'!!!
I have my own children to raise and really don't care to raise theirs!

Completely agree! Like the overweight woman on sofa in the nasty house eating cereal. Cereal is EXPENSIVE. She'd do a lot better with a bowl of oatmeal - both health-wise and dollar-wise. And, maybe get some exercise by cleaning up the house instead of watching tv. Better yet, shovel it out and have a yard sale and use that money to buy groceries with.

If food stamps were based solely on income, I would qualify. However, since I own and have equity in my house, I don't. My house payment is less than what I could rent an apartment for, so it would be silly to give it up just to get food stamps. Basically I'm punished by making a decision to buy instead of rent. Also, I have a small savings account for emergencies. That also counts against me. I was actually told at one time to empty out my bank account and put my house into someone else's name so that I could qualify. Told this BY the food stamp office people. They are apparently wise at how to cheat the system. But, it is very aggravating to know that people who have the same income that I do and choose to spend it unwisely are getting handouts from the government while those who are wise with their spending are essentially punished. No wonder people who are milking the system choose to stay there.

For one i am glad the system is there it does work for some people...But it is very aggravating to see people spend $100 dollars on beer and cigarettes then ask if you take acess card..and yes i do for a fact see this everyday. I am a single parent whose father is behind on child support as well but i work two jobs to make sure my child and I are taken care of... So when people as Why cant they get off welfare ask why would they want too!!!

The Impact Team should stand in one of the stores, where food stamps are accepted as payment, watch the check-out lines, and observe what the taxpayers' money is being spent on. A number of the folks who use food stamps are purchasing non-nutritional food.
Large numbers of cash register print-outs pass thru my hands each day, all with food stamp paments attached. Hundreds of dollars are spent every day on fountain drinks, candy bars and snack food. Personally, I resent the fact that my tax dollars are going towards these purchases.

If your neighbor loses his job, it's a recession. If you lose your job, it's a depression.

No one will pay attention to how bad the economy is until it directly affects them. The worse it gets, the more the people retreat into fairy tale land and bury their heads deeper into the ground.

One thing about burying your head, it exposes your ass in the air.
