Ok...I thought it was "All about the children".
So a needy family's mom fails the drug test. What? Now the kids have to starve another month or two until a clean family person can pass the test?
If there are any?
One good thing is testing of political office seekers.
But why did they stop there? Why not testing ALL current office holders and ALL state and local employees. Including ALL DHS workers.

If you could read, you would know drug testing for congress is also part of the bill.

I think this is a bad bill. Children will be going without but the fat cats won't . Why are they doing this now? They already do drug testing , you have to have a job 20 hrs a week or go to school and how is someone going to pay the $25 if they are broke to begin with and are trying to get help. Dhs and the housing authority should be overhauled.

You might wait until the bill is approved..........but then what is your suggestion? Do you really think the children will starve.

I used to bill a recipient of the assistance programs. I agree on this bc I have seen one to many people sell their food stamps to buy drugs. If they can buy drugs they can buy food. The father of my child is doing this currently using government and public assistance to get his high. So I agree with this bill 100% for people who are applying and for people he needs to get recertified for any assistant programs.

If you can afford drugs instead of food for the children, you shouldn't have them anyway.

You people are a joke! My tax dollars are going to your welfare paycheck. I have a say so in how my tax dollars are used. If you do not like it then go out and get a job. If you are going to crutch on the govt then guess what? You got to play by their rules. No more staying home watching Judge Judy, eating Twinkies and smoking a little bud. If you are clean then you shouldn't care. I am a firefighter, I am drug tested all the time. Police, Military all of us are tested, so for you to cry about your little test is a JOKE!

I am an employer and what about alcohol?

Are they testing for that too?

Why not?

As an employer drug addicts and alcoholics are absolutely the same. Neither one can last long in a job.

What a waste of money.

And many will argue that drinkers are not all alcoholics and that would be true of pot smokers are not all drug addicts.

All it will do is punish children. That is SO Christian.

I always wonder where the limits are. Will other things like driver's licenses be next for drug testing?

So many piecfes of legislation are passed out of a knee jerk reaction. The backlash isn't considered...or maybe it is considered and welcomed.

OKLAHOMA CITY Certain Oklahoma welfare recipients could be subjected to drug tests under a scaled-back bill that is heading to the governor's desk.

The House voted 86-6 on Thursday for the compromise bill that authorizes the Department of Human Services to conduct drug tests on welfare applicants if they have a reasonable suspicion the person is using drugs.

The proposed law applies to the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, or TANF, which serves an estimated 4,000 Oklahoma adults and 17,000 children in an average month.

The bill previously would have required all TANF recipients to take and pay for a drug test before receiving benefits. The revised bill applies only to applicants who come under suspicion after being screened for potential drug use.
