What bullshit!!! It is much easier to kick oxy's,morphine, heroin as to kick methadone. Never do you hear a clinic say: we will detox you off methadone when ever you want. Legal dealers is what clinics are.legaly stringing people along, till they have had enough and want to stop, the fan and shit meet!! Ok I know the lifers will have a blast with this one, have at it....

You know I'm not a lifer and, you know I disagree with you, but NOT completely.

Yeah, there are still lots of clinics that don't work at getting clients off of M. But there are more and more that do. You know the one I went to is active in getting clients off. I see more people here all the time, from all over the country, that are finding their experience similar to mine.

The clinic mentality is changing, albeit to slowly. Many know that their client base is nearly endless, as the article you've posted, points out. The incentive to move clients through is greater than ever and, again slowly, the model for clinics is changing from, keeping clients to turning them over.

I thought the article was spot on, thanks for posting it.

After discovering Doctors own the majority of Methadone Clinics I wanted to know why and the answer was/is still sickening. All the Mother's that I've met that have lost their adult children to Methadone Deaths at the Clinics died within the 1st week. It was rare if they ever saw a Doctor those that did had a basic check up... not monitored closely after dosing them. Why are these Clinics left to be ran by Nurses, Counselors and staff with no Doctor on site? People come here saying they can't afford to pay the Clinics and they all charge different prices even if in the same town. Methadone is one of the cheapest drugs on the market and just one of the reasons Pain Management Clinics decided to turn to the drug about a decade ago. While taking into consideration how many Americans had lost their Health Insurance it was consciously agreed upon by the Medical Community.I do believe in the beginning it was done in good faith until greed got the best of some Doctors...this was suppose to be a solution not a bigger problem..My google alerts weekly are full of articles where Doctors are being arrested b/c their Clinics have been investigated the same goes for Pain Management Doctors and in private practice all over the ,"almighty dollar."

I hear you Al.Left coast has alwasy been more "people" friendly than the right coast.I am waiting to see a 30-60-90 day clinic open. A clinic that offers three time lines to kick a nasty habit, not a lifetime of being handcuffed. On this coast it is all about the benjamans, all about the doe ray and horay for me and screw the rest.Heroin, oxy's any and opiates can be stopped with the aide of methadone, when used for that purpose, not for people to say I can not live without the crutch and must have it for the rest of my life. Ok if one does NEED it for the duration, then get it from a hospital setting and not a street clinic. Do you want a clinic down the street from you,do want the good methadone takers only? Takes one or two boneheads to screw it it up fort all and give the clinic a bad rap. Why not at a hospital I know they have plenty of open offices around here. Open a clinic at a hospital since this is a diesease. Maywee if they take some stigma away we shall see better results. Least we aint in Red China where the smack is pure and the penalties high!!

Thatís not entirely true; methadone clinics are supposed to deliver therapy, which is more like an action taken for public welfare rather than a business activity. True, running a clinic is for business, but the priority should be given to wellbeing of the society and its people. In this sense I believe, if those clinics collaborate with NGOs, then they might get some exposure.
