Lets blame DHS instead of the parents of this poor little girl..if the family knew about the abuse why the heck didn't they take the little girl..nope stood by and watched it I guess

Yes, I just love how it is always DHS fault. Funny how the dad fought for custody to get his baby away from mom and her husband BUT still let his baby go with both of them for a visit...ohhh, did I say that out loud!!

to sad sad, the dad may have won custody of Aja but court orders are still present for the non-custodial parent to have visitation.....I know from experience the judges here in Oklahoma DON'T care what is best for the child, only what would close the court cases before them.....

This is very true about DHS and the court. We do not have a judge that will protect these children - they feel that families should be kept together. At what cost should we keep families together?

Child welfare workers make recommendations but the judge is the one who makes the final decision and the parents have to follow what they are ordered to do. Sounds like the family is trying to place blame on someone....the one they need to blame is Mr. Lester Hobbs...he is the one who hurt this precious baby and killed her. Sounds like the family is trying to work on filing a lawsuit.

My heart goes out to the family of Aja. There is no words to make it better. God Bless you and may he hold you as you go through this horrible time.

The DHS are not the ones who let Tonya take Aja when she had supervised visitation only, and the grandmother knew Lester was not allowed to be around Aja. The parents and family of this little girl did not protect her. I feel sorry for Mr. Johnson, but he is the one who let Aja go with Tonya. He knew that Tonya would not make decission in Aja best interest or Mr. Johnson would not have fought for custody.
Law Enforcement had to get court orders to force Lester Hobbs family to cooperate and take polygraphs. They were on the news talking about how Lester abused Aja, why didn't they report it when Tonya showed with up Aja at Lester's home?
Tonya filed a protective order stating that Lester said he would kill her and her children with a hammer, and yet she takes her daughters to see him. The only victim here is Aja.

DHS may of been to blame before, but the Dad had custody now, and it wasn't DHS who sent her down there for a visit.

The child was released to the maternal grandmother for a birthday party, not the mom. The very first interview states that. The person at fault is not the dad, he did everything he was supposed to. The mother had supervised visitation with the maternal grandmother being the supervisor. What does that tell you when she now says she knew there was abuse going on? The dad was doing what the court order stated.

If that is true then the grandmother should be charged with child endangerment, and every other adult who knew Aja was with Lester Hobbs.

I feel for this family for the loss of Tonya and Aja. I do have to say though that Aja went to school in Davenport for two years and not once did I ever see the real father at any of her functions. I was the one along with her mother who pushed her around in a buggy at the zoo last year for a field trip, not him and he even lives in the city where we went. That is nuts. He did not even go to her Kindergarten graduation.

you know some body need for the kids in these unite state-go to battle with DHS -- they must be untuchable god will take care of them in the end. but until the end the law need to arrest the DHS workers and charge them with attempted murder because they know when they are abuse once it is just like a rapiest they do it from then on. why don't congress make the first offence life in prison or the death by firing squad. god will take care of them all the desent people can look to heavon and pray DHS- should hire desent people.

It is sad that they are trying to blame DHS, since he had custody and the mother had supervised visitation. I remember early on that J.J. said that he let the mother take her for the birthday party unsupervised. It seems to me that they should quit trying to blame the DHS for a decision he made and accept the fact that he is the one that made the decision to let her go. Why bring up kelsey and the people that handled her case unless you are trying to set things up for a pay day at taxpayers expense for bad decisons on your part. Most dads would have taken care of the situation without the DHS if it was their daughter being abused.

The mother had supervised visitation and the dad let them take her. How is that the fault of any Judge or DHS worker? If she had not been killed then they should have removed her from the entire family for making stupid decisions.

Don't slam the family now. The fact is that if they took that little girl they would be guilty of kidnapping, punishable by law, regardless of what the reason was behind it. They did all they could do in calling DHS and expecting them to do their job. The family needs that backing, proof of the allegations of child abuse. If they were to go into a court it would be one person's word against another. The testimony given by a 7 year old would hardly be taken into account because that child could have been coached. And now to hear that the same people were involved with Aja that were involved with Kelsey, that is just inexcusable and if there isn't a major overhaul in that system then something is terribly, terribly wrong. DHS is full of immoral, self serving workers that need to be weeded out. The few good ones cannot be expected to police the rest of them. If she was to have supervised visits then it would have been done under DHS rule so someone was NOT paying attention. The family has enough to deal with in trying to absorb the senseless murder of a little girl without being blamed for it.

It is stupid to blame the police and DHS because adults did not act responsibly and protect a child. I am sorry for their loss, however it is an extension of their irresponsibility to blame the system for their failure. They would not have been accused of kidnapping for following a court order that the Mother could not have Aja unsupervised.
This is ridiculous to expect law enforcement and Child Protective Services to govern common sense!

It is not stupid to blame them. Yes if that child is taken without a court order allowing them then it is kidnapping. In a case where the visitation is ordered to be supervised it is the responsibility of DHS, and the court, to do so, not the custodial parent. The reason for that is because in cases such as this the tensions are too high for the family to have to oversee visitation, fights erupt, etc. Someone, other than the family, turned their back for whatever reason. I am not blaming law enforcement but CPS yes. It is not ridiculous to expect them to DO THEIR JOB! They plainly stated there was abuse going on and that agency, just as in Kelsey Briggs' case, failed again.
